Default BOSE probs

I have the tape player BOSE on my 94, rather than all the re-wiring, is it ok to swap it out and put a BOSE factory CD player in?

you might be able to do an aftermarket cd player just look at the harness ive done a couple at work were the harness was just a regular chevy harness the only thing is that you have to power up an additional pink wire on a second harness that unplugs from the factory deck all it is is a remote wire it worth a shot just hang on to your receipts in case it doesnt work, ive done it on a couple of pontiacs should be the same

No, you can't just plug an aftermarket deck into a Bose system without a special adapter. Unlike the Monsoon (which is just a normal head unit attached to a special amp), the Bose system has high-impedance, line level output to speakers with individual amps built in. The individual speaker amps are "tuned" for their location in the vehicle.

However, there is no reason you can't replace a Bose cassette head unit with a Bose CD head unit. It will plug right in and work fine. Since all the "tuning" is in the speaker amps, changing the head unit won't affect the sound.

yep, bose uses different plugs. You MAY be able to find a bose cd player from the same era and it might just plug and play but otherwise I would go aftermarket and find an adapter to convert it into a single din headunit.

Since you already have a BOSE tape player the car is already wired the way it needs to be. Just install the BOSE cd player from a 95' and you are good to go.

Newer Bose systems don't work the same way as the ones in F-bodies and they aren't interchangeable. The mid-90s Bose systems had unique head units that would only work as part of a complete system. Recent models are more like Monsoon systems - the head unit is not special in any way, it's the speakers and amps that make the system unique. That's why you can get a new vehicle with the 6-disc indash changer as the "extended range" sound system or you can get the exact same radio with the Bose system speakers.

So no, you can't buy a newer factory Bose radio and expect it to work with your 94 Bose setup.
