Default turn signals blink way to fast, whats the fix?

This isnt in my T/A it is a 95 Grand Am but I figure it woudl still be the same. I turn the blinker on and the first blink is normal then it goes in to turbo mode and blinks so fast you could barely tell its on. No bulbs are blown either. What gives? Any ideas?

Does it happen for both sides? Did you recently change some of the bulbs? Add a trailer hitch?

Normally, a thermal flasher will flash faster because of an increased load caused by added bulbs (trailer) or higher wattage bulbs. The increased current makes the flasher make and break contact faster. A weak or defective flasher can cause the same symptoms.

On the other hand, many cars came with electronic flashers that were designed to flash faster when the current was reduced by a burned out bulb. I don't know if your Grand Am has a thermal or electronic flasher. If the problem happens on only one side then the flasher is not the cause. If both sides have the same problem then the flasher could be the cause.

Yes it happens on both side, and it DOESNT happen when the hazards are on, which kinda threw me for a loop. Seemed kind of odd to me. When one of my bulbs went bad, the flasher stayed lit on me, it didnt blink at all...if that help

There are separate flashers for turn signal and hazards so the hazards often will work when the turn signals don't. If you have experienced the turn signals not flashing on the side that has a burned out bulb then you have a thermal flasher (rather than electronic). In that case it's probably a defective flasher that is causing the fast flashing you're experiencing now. A replacement is just a couple of bucks at any auto parts store.

Drain out a bit of the blinker fluid.

There are two flashers - one for the hazards and one for the turn signals. The turn signal flasher will be under the dash someplace close to the steering column. It is a small cylinder about 1.5" in diameter and about an inch tall. The easiest way to find it is to turn on your turn signals and follow the clicking noise.
