Default Anyone running a ten inch Bazooka Bass Tube?

I have two kicker comps [2001] in a sealed box with the exact amount of air volume in each side. The box is custome made. It is internally divided and the speakers are facing the front of the car out of the 'cargo trunk.' My problem is my girlfriend has a TEN YEAR OLD bazooka bass tube in her cargo trunk and it hits deeper, longer and tighter than my bass. It literally sounds three times better and weighs about three times less. I like that too because the box is dropping my rear over half an inch and giving the appearance of WAY too much front fender gap. She does have a Phoenix Gold subwoofer in it that is about eight years old but cost $200 way back then. So why does it sound so much better than my system? I have a great amp that puts out 300 watts RMS to each speaker. Anyway, I've decided to go ahead and get one myself. Sice the design hasn't ever changed I'm just gonna get one at a pawn shop for twenty bucks and put in a better subwoofer like she did. Question is, which subwofer would be the best? I don't care about the cost, as long as it sounds good. Oh, her tube does distort easily if pushed but it sounds GREAT to that point. I listen to it loud and I'm only pushing it to about a five. You would only want it louder if you were trying to enter a bass contest or something. But it is perfect for an everyday speaker.
One last thing, should I go ahead and get a powered Bazooka or just get the housing and sub and use the amp I have? I don't want to use just one channel of the amp and I really like this amp. But I also don't think any speaker in a Bazooka would like 600 watts RMS would it? I don't know, school me. Thanks.

I installed a 10" bazooka tube in my wifes TA...I swapped in a 350W Precision Power C2 10" sub that I bought for $60 bucks. I'm using a new Kenwood amp bridged to 250W and this thing rocks BIG time. Sounds better than some systems I've heard with 2 12's !!! I just mounted it in the T-top storage area where it can be easily moved if I take the T-tops off. I've noticed it sounds MUCH better mounted down there....I have a JBL 10" tube in my camaro but the SAS Bazooka tube design simply blows it out of the water and is smaller and lighter. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

P.S. with this speaker the amp will clip and run out of power BEFORE the speaker distorts, I could actually run MUCH more power!!!

Contact SAS directly. They or one of their resellers can hook you up with a Bazooka RS replacement driver. They can be had with dual voice coils and huge surrounds for added excursion. Also they are fairly cheap and are designed for the Bazooka enclosure.

I am currently running 2 of them in a box designed by the inventor of the Bazooka, Dave Profit. It works on the same principle as the Bazooka bass tube but it fits in 3rd and 4th gen Camaros. I used to compete with this setup in my 3rd gen and at 1 time I hit 142dB with a Punch 75 (that was way back in '88 or '89...) Anyway, I've used this setup for years and I can tell you nothing comes close especially considering the space it takes up and the cost. I've seen cars with a wall of speakers not hit as hard or sound nearly as good as this.

Shoot me an email if you'd like more details...

Shane
