Default HELP! Shop installed MP3 Player and now the steering wheel controls....

Shop installed MP3 Player and now the steering wheel controls....
Are being weird. I don't understand it. They are not hooked up yet, but when I was driving last night the left side of it with the seek button was being weird and so was the volume button. Well the left side doesn't light up anymore and on both of the seek and volume buttons it only clicks if you are pushing down on the seek or volume button. If you try to just try to seek up or turn the volume up, it feels as though you are pushing a hard surface and that it doesn't go in at all. Is this normal or did the place that installed my stereo somehow mess this up. It never did this before when my stock monsoon head unit was in place. Does this fix once you install the steering wheel adapter?

Need some advice and knowledge. Thanks.

There is only one wire that goes behind the radio from the steering wheel controls. This wire is just a reference wire to the resistors in the steering wheel. There would be no reason for a installer to go messing with the physical steering wheel what so ever but from what your describing it's just something you have never paid attention to before. The only way the radio could be causeing a problem with any of the lights in the steering wheel is if the installer messed up and managed to hook the illumination wire behind the radio to something he shouldn't of but this would affect all your dash lights not just your steering wheel.

well, like I said above. For some strange reason, you can't even push in the buttons. Not even a little bit. Feels like you are trying to push on a rock. I just couldn't believe this could be a coincedence that right after I had my mp3 player installed, but steering wheel control buttons stop clicking like they use to when you pushed them.

Do these buttons mess up this fast? Is there any quick fixes?

Well it would just depend on how much you use them. I know buttons do wear out and the more you use them the less they make that nice clickin feeling. I know on older sony radios the volume up button and seek button would always quit clicking it was just a sign of wear and meant it was close to breaking. There is no way by just messesing with the radio these buttons on your steering wheel would quit working. It is just something you more than like never paid attention to before cause no one had played with the radio. Any time someone does work to your car you always notice the smallest thing and wonder about if it was like that before, I know I do this alot. (maybe i'm just weird like that <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )

it looks like they changed the whole wire that goes from the steering wheel buttons to the stereo? if they did that then they probably pulled the steering wheel buttons out and didnt replace them back in right... it could also be that the wires they placed in messed up the illumination on the buttons... that makes perfect sense but then again i never tampered with those so I cant say im right. Thats the biggest logical guess i could come up with.

Man I hate to sound like a *** but these replys are killing me here. I install car stereos for a living and there is no way they did all that changing wires and stuff. Straight up why would they have messed with it unless you were installing a PAC interface and if they were installing the interface the wire is found behind the radio. As a installer I can vouch for them that they are lazy why in god's green earth would they rerun a wire through a steering colum back to the radio and waste 2 hours in the process when it is directly behind the radio? And yes there is a chance they coulda hooked up a illumination wire behind the radio as a ground being stuipid cause it does check out as a ground till you turn on the headlights but that would not be isolated to just the steering wheel buttons it would mess up the whole dashlight circuit.

Even if he did install a Pac adapter, all he is doing is tapping 1 wire, he doesnt even go near the steering controls other than to press it once to program. The FBody controls are pretty much junk though, sometimes they work and other times they dont.
