what do you guys have for an indash touch screen headunit...

i want one for my 95, that looks good when its closed and when its open, and the screen has to be adjustable because the a/c ***** are above the cd player

looking somwhere in the 450 and lower range...

i looked at a few local stored today and likes the jensen vm9311ts, i know jensen is good stuff, i also liked the look of the dual xdvd8180, but ive never seen their products before and ive heard they are crappy...

any other good models...

I'm not too sure but I wonder if this might actually be able to fit in your car...

Actually, with a little work, it will fit. I'm getting the new AVIC-D3 when it comes out this march. Here are 2 shots of different units, the first is an eclipse with a custom abs plastic style bezel, and the 2nd is a pioneer AVIC unit with a custom fiberglass bezel.

If you search you'll dig up some posts. The new AVIC-D3 will be pretty cheap, around 1000, so prob 800 and less through well priced retailers and ebay. The AVIC-D2 will see another price drop too i would assume. Good luck.

The LT1 and the LS1 have identical dash openings for the stereo, so if you can get a double din to work in an LS1 it will work the same as in an LT1. The scrrens like that /\ look a lot cleaner than the flip out ones.

Would love to see some more pictures like this? It's nice to know that some people have actually done this, as it is something i'm very interested in doing. HOw much work is involved in making these fit? How much you think a shop would charge?

No, they don't... He has a Camaro, not a Trans-Am and his car is not a 1997 Camaro so it is not the same dash as LS1 cars...

Camaro or Trans Am, the LS1 and the LT1 have the same size opening for the radio.

Question

The Avic-D2 posted in the e-bay link . . . that's a direct fit into an '01 Trans Am?

Will the head unit have any problems controling Nav, stereo, etc.?

Where did you get the fiberglass bezel?

You don't understand... On a 1993-1996 Camaro's dash there is not room to modify the opening to fit a double din... It's not like a Trans-Am or 1997 up Camaro dash where you just have to trim the trim panel...

The area he has abrubptly stops and is a seperate piece from the console...

He COULD make the double din fit down in the cassette area and put gauges where the stock radio is though

yes...but i dont want that, id relly rather a flip out style screen..and im kinda on a 400 or less budget...but the lt1 style opening is kinda hard to explain, i know the stock bose and monsoon are similar size, but the surrounding plate on the dash is somewhat oval...its not perfectly rectangular like a ls1...this would need to be trimmed to rectangular for one of those style screens and then it would look ugly, might need to be wrapped in leather to cover it up then matched to the color of the dash...long stort short its easier to get a flip out style...
now from what im hearing the jensen aint that good either...i need an alpin pioneer or kenwoo...i saw the pioneer 5700dvd the other day at the store for 500...figured i might be able to find it here on the net for 375-400...anyone know a good spot for a deal?

You would think theres a large enough market for aftermarket companies to make 1.5 DIN headunits if theres going to make 1DIN and 2DIN..

I've had my Jensen for over a year without one problem... It's the in-dash DVD/TV Tuner/AM/FM/CD player...
