Default Trying to pick out a deck

Well... I've finally decided to start getting the audio done on my TA. I bought all rockford speakers when I first got it. 3 ways up front and rest are 2 ways. I know a little bout audio but really don't know what would be a good deck. I originally wanted one with a red face but now deicded I think it would be cool with a color display. I want something pretty up to date. I already have my HU mounting kit which looks great and can't wait to get it in. Once the deck is in I think I'll be doing away with monsoon and hatch speakers and getting a nice 4 channel amp. I'm looking to spend around 300 or less.

Thanks guys,

Kyle

Do you want "cool color" or sound quality in your stereo? heh

I don't know which ones have the fancy color displays, but the Pioneer DEH-P880PRS has been popular on this and other boards. I've got one on the way, so I can't speak from personal experience yet...

I'd like both but the color doesn't have to be anything hardcore. My freinds are always giving my crap for owning all these different vehicles over the years and never putting a system in any of them. I know I'm going to be keeping the trans am and am always listening to tunes so I have deicded to get to it.

A quick look on crutchfield I liked the JVC KD-AVX11 but I think its more of a dvd player than anything. I don't need dvd so I think I'd be paying more for something I won't use. So, probably will scratch that off the list.

LMK what you think once you have it in.

Anyone using a Panasonic CQ-C9901U. It looks like it is a powerful deck with great tuning and a good color display.

If you want a HU that does it all then, the Alpine CDA-9835 will be a great choice. I currently have one and it is the best HU that I have owned. Of course, these are used and I found one on eBay that is virtually new. The Bass Engine Pro and impossible to find anymore and with 6 channel time correction, 5 band parametric EQ and 6 positon crossover, you can really dial in the SQ. Plus, the HU has 512 colors to match the interior at night. This was one of the last years with a motorized tilt and it is really nice. The front face has 3 tilt positions. The HU can control the Alpine CHA-S634 CD Changer and is satellite radio compatabile.

Ihave the JVC exad avx1 ($300.00). It is a great deck!! The readout is very versatile and as since it reads DVD's you can put your MP3's on a 4.7gig dvd which holds over 1000 songs whcih you can split into folders. I have alot of my sound library in my car as well as my computer now!! I've had several decks. The Panasonic is a very nice unit. The screen savers get old after about a month. Nice to be able to download your own onto the face. The others that have screen savers and g-meters are kinda gimicky but sound good. Premier is awesome for SQ as well!! It's all preference.

I've been reading about the premiers and I think I'm leaning toward them. I think you guys talked me out of the color display. I'm sure I'd just get sick of them after a while any how. I know my friend has a premier, not sure which model, and he loves his.

While we are on the topic, anyone want to recomend a good 4 channel amp? How many watts should I be looking for with punch series pair of 3 ways and pair of 2 ways? I'm thinking I should do it all at once. Should I go rockford? I remember a while back I heard people saying good things about hifonics.

Thanks,

Kyle

Nice HU for SQ without all the flashy stuff. Clean and simple.

What are you trying to say At least I recommended a good one. The 9835 was last of Alpine's good HU's.

It's $308.00-$315.00 shipped on ebay...I hope you didn't spend $399.00 on it!! That IS a badass unit though!!!

EDIT: How in the heck is Alpine gonna put all that technology into a HU and still only have 2volt preamp outs?????!!!!!! That is rediculous!!!!!!! I just saw that.

I don't know why Alpine choose the 2V preouts over the 4V. I guess the IPod full speed controller takes up some room inside the HU and the 4V converter either did not fit or would have cost too much.

Actually ALOT of the high end stuff is actually cheaper on ebay than it is wholesale. I just got my business license and have visited 2 locations to get pricing. The reason for this is some of these guys are actually buying from the manufacturer direct and in bulk. It drops the price so much that they can sell cheaper than wholesale. I contacted a guy in China that manufactures 7" flip out DVD players. I can buy them for $140.00. BUT, I have to buy 100 at a time and pay import taxes. They sell on ebay for around $400.00-$600.00. I am finding out how much the import taxes are just to get an idea. But that's why Best Buys, Circuit City, etc. get killed by ebay prices...not to mention having the overhead of a store, staff, etc.

who cares how much it cost any alpine head unit is badass, the quality is uncomparable for instance i bought a alpine head that was never released in the us, i bought it in hong kong since that time its been threw 3 accidents including a rollover and till this day it plays like a champ, i bought a clarion dvd flip unit had it in my car for about a week went over a speed bump and that piece of crap broke..see the diffrence in quality you get what you pay for...
