Default iPod on stock cd player?

Anyone using an iPod on the stock cd player? If so do you have an install guide and the products I'll need?

Just make sure it works on your car. Those adapters (like all of the auxiliary input adapters) require that the head unit be capable of controlling an external CD changer. That means any year of cassette head unit but CD head units only from 2000 or newer.

The specs say:
"Pontiac Trans Am (1996-2002), TransSport (1996-1998), Vibe (2004-2005); Saturn SC1, SC2, SL, SL1, SL2, SW1 and SW2 (1995-1999)"

So: I do have a 1999, I do have a cassette deck on my OE h/u and I do have a cd changer in my trunk, I am all good to go for this, yes?

There is also a note at the bottom of the application listing that says "1995-1999 Not compatible with in dash CD player"

It is compatible with all years of cassette players so it will work with your setup. However, it is an either/or installation - you have to disconnect the external CD changer in order to use the iSimple adapter.

You might consider a simple cassette adapter (available for under $20 almost anywhere). The sound quality isn't quite as good as a CD because the dynamic range of the tape deck isn't as wide but it's better than FM modulation and it lets you keep the changer.

Default ipod.

So I assume this unit plugs into where the o/e cd changer does? I also found some on ebay, one called USA Spec, it looked interesting too.

Yes, it plugs into the 9-pin CD changer port on the back of the head unit.

Okay, so once you have this deal, how does it controll the ipod?

How do you select tracks, albums, etc.?

You still have to be able to see the iPod because the factory HU will treat it like a CD changer but won't display track names, etc. Change tracks just like any CD and albums/folders are selected as though your were changing discs in the changer.

I have a 2000 WS6 Trans Am with Monsoon system. Head unit has CD but no tape and looks like no buttons for CD Changer.

I just bought the USA Spec for Ipod and RCA Aux Input. It seems I'm SOL because the instructions say select track 6 to get the input to work. Package says it's for 96 to 2002 Firebird.

I have no way to change tracks on my head unit. Is there a trick? This blows, the USA Spec unit works great on my Chevy Tahoe.

I really want to keep the factory head unit, what are my options if this won't work?

If this won't work, can anyone suggest a nice head unit that won't alter the dash and will work with factory plugs, speakers / monsoon amp etc? I want to keep it factory.

Use the CD/Play button to switch to the auxiliary input. Press once to use the built-in CD (assuming there's a disc in it), then press again to switch to the auxiliary input.

I went for the Jason Novack Ipod mod, under $50 if he does it or under $10 if you do it...pm for info or search this forum for "Jason Novack".

I tried that. Does it work for you? I figured we all had the same head unit, I guess there are different ones?

I'll check out the Novak mod.

It works now, I must have had a loose connector, I unplugged them all and plugged them back in and now the CD/Play button makes it go to Track 6 Disc 1 on the display and my Sirius comes in nice and clear now.

Will this adapter work with the newer ipod touch and also does it allow you to use six different playlists? I.E disc 1-6 is playlist 1-6?

I got this a month ago, works great! It charges, plugs into your factory deck, & turns off the ipod (pauses it) when your radio is turned off. @100$, you cant beat that!!!
This thing works great. I have for over a year now.

I have Ipod Nano, and I have the playlist option on mine but I haven't really messed with it.
