what are your wants/needs as far as power? I know you don't want to spend much....but what is your budget? As far as the best price/watt on more commonly available brands -- look into Hifonics or Phoenix Gold, some MA Audios, , Power Acoustik, etc. have gotten good reviews as well.

You're gonna need more than $150 -- you could try used....or look at some refurbs on eBay -- Kicker usually has a bunk up there -- ~600 watts for $170s-ish is the closest I can think of right now as far as your budget and moneys worth -- however Kicker rates at 14.4Ohms....but they also overrrate their amps -- so it'll come close to evening out at you'll get close to 600 or so.
Honestly though -- wait another paycheck or two and raise the budget $50-100.

I have an idea!
Go with the Alpine SWR-1042D Bring it from a DVC 4 ohm load to a Single 2 ohm load.
And hook it up to the Alpine MRP-M450.
At a 2 ohm load that will give you 400 watts(that is enought power), and thats about in your price range.
oh, and get the box at subthump!

I'm going to go with the same set up. I have an MTX stealth box and I'm going to get an Alpine Typre R sub 10" as well.
Now, about the amp. If you want the ultimate amp, I saw you get the Alpine PDX 1.1000. A couple of weeks ago I went to a get together and guy from here had that set up and it sounded NICE. I believe his screen name is Carlos01SS. The cheapest I've seen it was $450 shipped(on ebay). But trust me... it's small, it doesn't overheat, and it pumps out 1000 Watts RMS! That my friend is what you need...

What about an MTX 300XD? I've been looking at that one lately. Can't decide on an amp either! I'm looking to spend somewhere between $150-250, of course cheaper the better! But I want a decent brand as well. I'll be powering either an MTX T5500 10" or a Type R 10". I was planning on running 4ohm, but I suppose running a dual voice coil at 2ohm couldn't hurt

i am going to be running a different sub than you (ED11ov dual 2ohm wired for a 4 ohm load) but i picked up a PPI white art series 600.2 for $150 on ebay. it is mint with one scratch on the back side i will bridge the amp for a 4ohm load and have a conservative 600 watts headed to my stealth box

I know this thread is old, but I have 2 amps for sale.
Precision Power PC 2300.2- $175
MTX Thunder 6304- $150
The precision power is a very good amp. I don't know much about the MTX as it came in my car when I bought it. It works just don't know much about MTX amps.
