How to hardwire a escort passport 8500 x50
I know it's possible because I've seen it done, but, how do you hardwire this radar detector with a push button switch and leds for fully working mute button? I don't want to buy the $30 direct wire kit they sell for this because I wanna do my own wiring and use my own switch.
Anybody know or have any write ups?

i used the smart wire for mine but here goes anyway...
take the smart wire apart and there's just a chip in there that the LEDs are connected to. drill three holes (for the two LEDs and the mute button) where ever you want to mount it. i put mine in that little part where the vert switch is. i think in my old hardtop it was a storage spot though. the front of the smart wire is just a heavy duty sticker so you can just stick it back on top of the holes. glue the chip behind the part you're mounting it in and tap a wire. my camera is dead so i can't post pics but i've had mine done for 3 years now with no problems.
EDIT: found this write up http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...p-vt29486.html
