Default Power Loss on Attempt to Start car

Lately sometimes when i turn the key to start the car, the power dies...loss of clock etc...(complete power loss)...and then i wait a few seconds and it comes back and i can start the car.

Would this be a short inthe starter, bad battery etc..
I am thinking a short with something to do with the starter. Could or would the clutch switch to allow starting affect this at all?

Thanks

The reason I ask about the clutch/starter switch is because this problem happened after i had a N20 pass with sticky clutch afterwards...clutch has been beaten bad but im not sure thats whats causing it...
