Default Oversized speakers in doors

Hey guys, been a bit busy, haven't had much time to finish my car audio crap. I put some Dayton RS180s in and they sound OK but they were a bad choice. I had to make some pretty thick MDF brackets for them and the door panel was hitting the MDF, so I trimmed down the MDF and I think the door panel is hitting the speaker itself. What are my options other than scrapping the RS180s?

I can cut the door panel and put a generic grill in, but I'm not sure that would look good. Has anyone done that and had it look good? Can I see pictures if so?

I may end up scrapping the RS180s if I don't like the alternatives. It's really puzzling to me that a 7" speaker is so much bigger than the 6.75"...
