Will USA Spec Aux/Ipod input work w/o CD Changer HU?

Will USA Spec Aux/Ipod input work w/o CD Changer HU? I have a 2000 WS6 Trans Am with Monsoon system. Head unit has CD but no tape and looks like no buttons for CD Changer.
I just bought the USA Spec for Ipod and RCA Aux Input. It seems I'm SOL because the instructions say select track 6 to get the input to work. Package says it's for 96 to 2002 Firebird.
I have no way to change tracks on my head unit. Is there a trick? This blows, the USA Spec unit works great on my Chevy Tahoe.
I really want to keep the factory head unit, what are my options if this won't work?
