Default Electrical problems with my 99 SS.. Don't know where to start..

Figured it out! There was a short coming off the fuse box. Thanks!

I'd first suggest you re-check all of your fuses to make sure they are in the correct place. Both your gague lights and hatch release mech are influenced by multiple fuses.

According to the factory schematics, the TAIL LPS fuse feeds your dimmer switch, which feeds the IP DIMMER fuse, which then feeds the radio, gague, and other backlights. (I assume you were blowing the IP DIMMER fuse up until now?) If you also blew the higher power TAIL LPS fuse, I would think you have a short somewhere in the circuit. Have you added any electronics to your car previously?

The hatch mech requires both the COURTESY and PWR ACCY circuits in good order, so you may check those fuses to make sure they are also good. Depending on your type of car, you may also need the engine turned off or the emergency brake engaged before the body control computer will power the hatch release.
