Quick Theft Lock Question
Do i need to do the theft lock bypass if im not ever planing on using the stock monsoon thats in there again. I'm about to replace with an alpine.

i have never had too, just buy a wiring harness, and a dash installation kit, and switch them out, i have a had about 6 98-02 f-bodies and one 96 f-body all my life and switched all there head units out with aftermarket usuallly alpine also and never had to bypass the theftlock system, hope this helps

Thanks man this is also my first install and i got the harness adapter, installation kit, and antana adapter. I have no clue how to wire though dont u just splice the wires twist them toghter soder them the put heat shrink and tape over that thats what some dude told me to do.

The TheftLock means nothing unless you want to put the stock head unit back later. Even then, it only matters if it was actually set on the head unit before you disconnect it. It doesn't come activated from the factory and most owners never bother setting a code to activate it. If the red LED on the face of the radio doesn't flash when you turn off the car then TheftLock isn't activated.

Take the time and do it right. Wire caps are for household wiring that isn't subject to movement and vibration (unless you live in California). Solder and heat shrink tubing is the best way but even crimp-on butt connectors are better than wire caps.

thats just the way i have done it for years, and never no trouble, on stereo installation, soldering and heat shrinking for a cd player installation is just to much trouble to do in my opinion, not trying to argue, it just the way i have done it for over 15 years and never had any trouble out doing that way. peace
