iPod with '98 Monsoon
After reading several posts and the Monsoon FAQ I think I know the answer to this but just had to ask...
I have a '98 Z28 with Monsoon single CD deck and no CD changer. There is a "CD/Aux" button on the deck....
Is that a "dummy" button or can I use an iPod adapter through the "Aux" (CD Changer) input with my HU?
I'm assuming it won't work but it seems strange they'd label a button "Aux" if there was no aux
My assumption is that, like everything else on this car, it needs to be upgraded to something from an '01-'02. It's a good thing this car was cheap or I'd feel dumb for buying a '98

The CD/Aux button on pre-2000 CD head units was designed to switch to an external cassette player. That tape player was never offered in f-bodies but was available in other GM models. Unfortunately, that means that those head units don't have the necessary signals and controls to work with an external CD changer or any of the auxiliary adapters.

I put an '00-'02 CD HU in my '98 since I also have the stock 12 disc changer and I was able to swap the dark gray faceplate from my '98 over to the '00-'02 for a perfect match in my '98. It's NOT difficult at all, so I just thought I'd throw that out there just in case you don't like the mismatched HU color in your '98 if you put in a black CD HU from the '00-'02.

Another GM stereo question...
A guy I know gave me a factory sub that mounts on the left of the trunk area (opposite the spare tire well). I've not heard of an LS1 car having one of these... is it an LT1 thing? Any way to incorporate it into the Monsoon system? Is it even worth it, or should I just get an aftermarket setup to mount there?

[QUOTE=Chad89GT;10082979]Hey, thanks for the tip! I assume you meant it's not difficult at all?[QUOTE]
Ooops...yeah, "NOT difficult at all" is correct. You have to be careful with the little plastic clips and take your time, but the face will pop right off.
As far as the sub is concerned, the '93-'96 LT1's did have a Bose sub option that was like a single 6.5" (or 6.75") sub. However, you really can't use the Bose sub without the Bose system, so the best you might be able to do is remove the sub and replace it with an aftermarket sub of the same size. However, since a stealthbox will hold a 10" sub in basically the same location, that's your best option IMO.
