Ghost In Trip Meter!
Guys,
For some reason all of the sudden my trip odometer resets itself as the car sits when i lock it,leave it and come back in for more than 10 minutes. My mileage is correct on the main odometer but it keeps resetting. I was thinking due to low voltage or maybe whatever keeps the memory for that has just seen it's last leg. Can someone help me out with this I have never taken apart the cluster to repair or diagnose micro electronics and therefor dont know the tolerances. Thanks!

It's likely the battery and/or the connection to the battery has started to corrode or is loose. Pretty sure mine's building corrosion again because on startup, the trip odometer resets itself and the gauges flip to max and then drop to min, then return to proper working order. Time for anti-corrosion procedures...
linegtdt52: If you did replace the battery, did that fix the problem?

+1 for the battery, i put a brand new battery in my car one day and it started doing the same thing. took it back a few days later, hooked it up to the tester at the local autozone...sum-b*tch had a bad cell in it. free factory replacements are a beautiful thing!

does the time on your radio reset itself too? In my oldsmobile i had loose contions to the battery and it caused the tripometer to reset and the time to reset randomly when the car was parked. sometimes it would take a little extra effort to start the car too. i tightened the sidepost and all was good again.

check connections first, i had this exact problem (odo reset, needles in gauges going to max) and i had a bad ground connection. might save ya from buying a battery for no reason.
