Default Beat my Buddy's Auto GTO today

First off I have a 2002 Trans Am fully loaded leather hurst shifter etc. 6sp with the shift skip eliminated and an SLP loud mouth exhaust, thats it.

He has a 2004 Yellow GTO automatic with an aftermarket muffler, nothing else.

The first run was from about 45, I only went to 3rd because I'm getting new tires on wedsnday and these dont have much tread left. He pulled a little on me at first but once I got into my power band for the gear and shifted into 4th I had put a car length on him by 90.

The second was from 20, I shifted into 2nd and by the top of 3rd I had about a car length on him.

The races were very close, but I guess my 6sp made up for what the GTO's were rated at which is
350 @ 5200 RPM 365 @ 4000 RPM

My car is rated at
310 @ 5200 RPM
340 @ 4000 RPM

Also my car has 103,500 miles and his 43,000.

FYI, you've got the EXACT same engine as in his GTO, and the EXACT same engine that's in the C5. An LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1....
nice run. the LS1 Goats never did impress me at all

Nice kill, but all the advantages go to you, you have the weight advantage, you have a stick and he has an auto, also you have a few more ponies than him, you being a stick and him being an auto. A rating is just a rating, just like a rated X movie being rated as PG-13.

So what is the average weight of a gto over fbody? ~225lbs...?

And generally, arnt' LS2 gtos about even with LS1 fbodys? Maybe a little stronger up top so a short race will go to the fbody?

A 2004 GTO was still an LS1. The LS2 went into 05+ GTO's

Yeah, I was aware of the 04s.. I was just speaking otherwise, doesnt it take an LS2 GTO to run with an LS1 fbody.

Good kill. Not suprised by the outcome. The TA probably makes more hp at the wheels due to the GTO being an auto. I think the GTO might have a slightly different cam from the factory, which gave it a torque rating of 365, but I could be wrong.

For weight, I believe my dad's 2004 M6 GTO tipped the scales at 3725 without a driver.

True a rating is just a rating, I did have the weight and of course being a stick, but I had thought it would have been a little close, can't wait till I get some mods on though!

Nice kills auto GTO's aren't the fastest cars out there. LS2 cars are quicker though.

Nice kill, OP. Definitely an expected outcome as he's got more weight and a disadvantage from a roll being an A4, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fun, I'm sure!

I've ran both my cars side by side. Neither car had wheelspin I was powershifting my TA and pulled my GTO three cars from 5-120 mph. Stick>A4 with good traction every time. Of course the TA has a catback, both cars have free flowing intakes. The TA put down 323rwhp. The only other thing about the race is my dad was driving the gto and he's about 80lbs heavier. The goat might have lost by a half-car less with someone my weight (185 lbs) driving.

I've ran into 1 cam only Fbody and the race was close with me barely moving in front. I've dropped a good 150 lbs off my car so the weight isn't as big of a deal.

But I understand, Goats are dogs

I would own a Kia before I own a GTO

i have a 04 gto 6sp. and my son had a 99 ta auto. while both were stock, i could put over 2 cars on him easy. after he did the internet mods or free mods he could walk by me barely. i put on a cai and custom exhaust and we were both equal. alot of gto's are slow due to the driver mod. not all fbody are as fast as everyone thinks...

The difference is a manual driven well is faster. If my gto were a stick I have no doubt it would not get beat by the TA and it may even pull a little bit on the top end.
