Default 04 Z06 vs 02-04 Mustang GT

So I am rolling down this four lane in my recently purchased (& bone stock) Z06 headed out of town & this dude in a gold 02-04 Mustang GT pulls up right on my backside. I am cruising about 45 mph in 4th gear & he floors it & swings around me hard. He gets about 1.5 lengths out when I downshifted to 3rd & punched it. By this time the gap is @ 2 cars, but I start sucking him up. I am right on his hip when I shift to 4th at about 90-95 mph. I pull on him hard through 4th & shift to 5th with about a 1-1.5 car lead at @ 125 mph. I start hopping the throttle at that point, still maintaining the 1-1.5 car lead & then we both shut it down.

So I beat the guy, but...

Am I wrong to feel like I should have pulled on this guy worse than I did? Would y'all tend to think this guys GT was modded or that I may not have been driving my car hard enough? Any input on this would be appreciated.

You should of downshifted to second. Shift at 6500. Then it wouldn't of been so close.

Even without the downshifting, I would say the Mustang was modded. A stock GT is in the 14's. Even without running the Z hard your in the 12's. Good kill

sounds about right to me

if you went WOT at a lower speed you would have put more distance between you and the mustang, also you were in the wrong gear

anyway good kill + nice car

Default Yeah...

I should have downshifted to 2nd- in other words, I didnt drive the car hard enough. No worries... to win, not push the car as hard as I could have & knowing it was my fault for not downshifting to a lower gear & shifting too early is great. No harm done & the errors are 110% correctable.

That said, I feel much better because I ran a 96 T/A 6M w/ some bolt ons & destroyed it. Pulled on him hard through 2nd while spinning & just trying to keep the car straight, grabbed 3rd (@ 6500, lol) with a 1-1.5 length lead & stretched the gap out to @ 3-4 lengths through 3rd & got out of it when I shifted to 4th. This makes me feel great after what I felt was a sub-par result against the GT & it tells me 2 things.

1) the GT was definitely modded- it would have probably beat that 96 T/A
2) this car is a different vehicle when driven harder (read: shifting at a higher rpm) and done so in "Competitive Driving" mode. I don't know what that changes other than defeating the Traction Control but the car definitely responds.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

well also you have to remember the stang was on it and was already 2 cars ahead when you punched it in third which means you had to at first stop his pull. Then pull even and then put cars on him. That is really hard to do and means your car is way faster. You probably are up 100hp or so on him.

also a very good point, meaning you still put 3 or so cars on his total, while not even driving your car to the full potential, so that car might actually be about even with the 96 you raced.

But the cam shaft is one piece, probably where the confusion stems from.
