2001 SS vs. 03-04 Cobra

Default 2001 SS vs. 03-04 Cobra

Out with a few friends and went to a new place to race or BS. Happened to be a Cobra there and I wanted to know where I fall in the pecking order of things so I wanted to race him.

Mods: 2001 SS M6, 230's cammed 346 with decked 241's, P&P TB, blowing threw the stock SLP catback. Running Avon M500 tires.

03-04 Cobra, Pullied, tuned, catback, 4.10 gear'd on Nitto 555R.

OK here goes he wanted to race from a dig and I wanted to race from 50 we ended up running twice first from a dig, of course he pulled 3 cars and stayed there. Second race we ended up starting at 40 which is a little lower then I wanted but cool its a race. All the way through second and beginning of third we were dead even, at around 5500rpm I start edging him and I would say had a good 1/4 fender on him before I let out in third and we ran out of track. So needless to say I was very pleased.

After we get back he had a few quotes not hating on the guy it was a good race but it had a good excuse. " My car sucks from a roll because my tires are so heavy." So all in all it was a good race.

And my car is running way rich when Im pushing it so have to get that figured, fuel smoke was pretty bad after the second race.

Excuses from the Mustang guys are fairly common. Must be included with the car at purchase, like the vouchers for Flowmasters and a new shifter - the 5" tach offer died out in 93.

Us F-Body guys get our manual in the glovebox when we buy our cars but mustang owners get a note from FORD saying sorry we suckered you in to buying this piece of ****. I am sure somewhere in that book is a list of excuses

A couple losses and a win. Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like you had some fun, which is what it's really all about anyway. WTF @ the heavy wheels comment?

I dunno my car came with a Instructions that said.
"How to whoop on LT1 F-Body's"
1. Select gear (any gear)
2. Accelerate to half throttle
3. At this point you should be at least 1 buss length in front of said LT1.
4. Show courtesy and give a thumbs up after the race is over. After all they dont know any better they did buy a gm.

1 Loss and 1 Win for the record. Ive always liked the 03-04's there mean looking mustangs.

It was 430hp 400tq. Theres a lot of little things I can do to get some more out of it, but Im happy where its at now.

It was a good race Ive never been that dead even with someone.

Honorable death and nice kill. I must of lost my excuse manual... Oh well really haven't needed it much since most of the LT1's around here are slow.

Thats right you can beat stock LT1s (93-97s) good for you... stock they put down like 275 MAYBE!!!! a full bolt on heads cam LT1 thats 14 years old will walk cobras..... I ve done it. Does everyone this LTx cars are slow or what??? Have yall every raced and full LTx??? they can get quick in a hurry. No hate against mustangs i love the cobras there mean as hell but to slow for what there are. BUT can be very very fast with the right owner.dont take it to heart ford owners just giving you ****

if cobras are slow for what they are what would you consider an lt1 a slug?? oh and i wouldnt be too worried about your head/cam lt1. maybe if you had a big stroker with a big shot on top of that i might be worried.

Nice cars... Good runs op, sounds like a blast. Gotta love those cobras, but an lsx motor is where it's at!!!

My bad. I misread your initial post. It's interesting that you lost from a dig and won from a roll.
I would've thought the outcome would've been reversed...especially with the 4.10 gear in the Cobra.
IRS + 4.10's + gobs of torque = tough to launch on the street.

I disagree. Even when I only had bolt-ons I was raping H/C LT1's.
