Talking LS1 M6 TA Vs. Bolt on New Edge GT

Was cruising down a 4 lane, and noticed a Silver New edge. First thing that stood out was smoked tails, then the 3" duals tucked RIGHT against the bumper cutouts, then the lowering job. I pulled up next to him and opened up the cutout, spotting that the car was indeed lowered, and rolling on 17" TT2s. I got my T-Tops out and windows down, and his windows are down as well.

Both cars were LOUD, but mine moreso.

We came to a light that was red, and it turned green as we were both rolling up.

He looked out the window and hollered "Does that car run."

I just chuckled and started honking.

2nd honk, dude takes off @ 25mph in 2nd. I drop the throttle as well, letting him get a 1.5 car jump.

I almost immediately stop his pull, and start to even the field a bit.
wind it up to about 6,000, and I'm even with his rear tire. Guy shifts to 3rd, and I'm a fender ahead. I grab third at 6400 and I lose about 2 feet, then start to RUN away.

I let out about 90, and I was 3-4 cars ahead of the guy. When he pulled up next to me at the next light, about a mile up, he made a bitch excuse and turned off.

WTF's an Edge?!? Isn't it that portly SUV POS? Those things are front wheel drive and suffer from horrible torque steer (I rented one for a week. Drove it up from OC to SF for GDC and HATED every time I got on the gas, it would squirrel-out).

Am I missing something that would make it worth racing?

A "New Edge" is a 99-04 mustang. Good kill OP. Always nice to catch unsuspecting guys on the street. But you said you shifted at 6400 rpm, with a stock cam..... why is that?

So I'm a little out of peak torque in the next gear.

I'm tired of replacing carrier/pinion bearings

why would you want to be out of peak TQ? I must be missing something.

So I keep my differential in it's original packaging. I've already jacked it up twice in the last 12 months. Once at the strip once on the street. Picked up some wheelhop somewhere.

To be 100% clear, it whines VERY loudly, to the point I don't like driving it. I'm waiting on a weekend off for a rebuild day.

This race also has me lined up with an 04 Mach, a 96 Cobra, and a turbo 325is sometime in the next 3 weeks.

If u got a race with an 04 Mach its probably the same one I raced. Its not much of a handful but if u go from a dig you will definitely be playing catch up because of your "weak" launch not wanting to break something. If you say the vid in this forum about the 04 Mach against 02 SS thats me.

Depends on what mods the mach has though. I wouldn't under estimate one. They're typically a drivers race.

I run 3-4 tenths faster than most of the Mach 1s I've seen out.

I've outrun a few Mach 1s.

And I'm not running from a dig period. it's the 1--2 I'm afraid off.

Sounds good man. Ls's def. have the upper hand on the last half of the 1320. (roll vs. dig). I only got to race one LS fbod and it was an SLP M6 Z. We were neck and neck every time. I had a bolt on mach that dyno tuned at 297/314.

You had a strong one then. I'm talking about 1/.8th mile though. Most of them were running 8.60-8.80s. I'm i the 8.30s to 8.60s.

Pesky 60' times.

Mine was 'average' for those mods. I think 90% of the time, people short shift because of being afraid to run her out or take her to redline, not knowing the powerband. I think that's the case with most races that are 'questionable'. Machs should be shifting shortly after Fbods. 6300-6500 range with the redline at 6800, looking at their power band. Most guys shift too late (redline) or too early (cautious).

nice 1/8s
Edit - talking roll racing here. First gear change is different.
