Default GTP vs GXP

I posted this on another site, but I send most of my time over here.

I had my first run in with another Grand Prix today. While running out of town today on a 4 lane divided highway, a dark red GTP, with tinted windows shoots by me. Even though the road surface is smooth and dry, there’s too many driveways and such things to start anything so I let him go on by. A few minutes later I see in the distance, the GTP hitting his brakes for the last traffic light for the next 5 miles. The GTP is in the left lane and will be in the hole when the light turns green. Yea! In the right lane I see a tired old camper all ready in the #1 position. The road beyond the light is wide open and will be buffered by the national park for the next 1-1.5 miles! I hit the gas and jump in the left lane and race to get in line before the green flag. Just as a get to a complete stop, the light flashes green and off we go. As soon as we clear the shed on wheels I jump into to the right lane and I mash the gas pedal. The car leaps forward and I can hear my Presa Canario hit the back seat and begin to scramble for footing. I quickly jump out about one car. The car shifts slowly into second, but once there I begin to add another car. I shut it down after seeing three digits and the look on my wife’s face (she had never gone that fast before). We then proceeded to the park to walk the dizzy dog.

My sister has a 99 GTP. Theyre ok, but dont the GXPs have the 5.3L? I would think the GXP would have a huge advantage over a 240hp 3.8L. But the GTP could have been modded. Then its a whole different story.

A GTP is faster with $250-400 in mods.

There is a Houston Club Grand Prix "mod day" this weekend. You should come out:

Nice run. I had a modified GTP that would just hang with my stock WS6, they can be quick.

I figure that my GTP and my WS6 had wild freaky car sex and blessed me with my GXP. I love it!!!

Not that cheap bud.. Maybe for some of these mid 14 GXP's but not my '05.. that bad boy ran 13.6 @102+ bone stock and sh*t load of 13's on several other occasions.. yeah you can make the GTP's quick but don't make it sound like it's a couple bucks away.

Getting a GTP into the 13s is a downpipe, intake, and 3.4" supercharger pulley away. Those exact mods usually result in 13.8-13.9s at 100-101mph.

Used 3" downpipe - $100
Build an intake with K&N cone filter - $50
3.4" pulley - $35

Add an aftermarket PCM, some cheap Ebay headers, and a custom wideband tune and Ive seen them run 13.3-13.5s on street tires consistently. Getting them much past that costs a decent ammount more cash and takes more work. That being said, Ive got a GTP with a big turbo on it...

Must be nice racing in the New Jersey vacuum. In the real world a GTP really is only a few hundered bucks away from running down stock LS4 cars.

$200 for headers
$30 pulley
$100 for a tune
$100 intake

That alone will get a well maintained and properly running L67 car well into the 13's.

Good kill! I've always liked the LS4 cars, but it seems that there is not a very big following for them, and therefore not many mods for them.

Are the 2004 GTP's any faster than the pre-2004's? I know they are rated more, horsepower-wise (260/280 vs 240/280), but I don't know if they are heavier or anything.

2.5 inch downpipe and ported front manifolds are useless.
That setup with headers instead of that crap would be mid-high 13's.

Plus he's probably not running in the New Jersey vacuum. There he'd probably break into the high 12's with headers.
