Since my 2004 GTO 330rwhp can't beat a stock LS1 camaro SS because my car is too heavy. Is the 2005 GTO good enough to beat it? Is 6.0 and 50 more hp that much of a difference to push the weight difference between the GTO and camaro?

The answer is yes. Especially off of a roll. The top end of the LS2 compared to the LS1 is just wordls apart. Ive ran my fair share of stock or lightly modded LS1 GTOs and F bodies. Off a roll i never lost.

..........mod your GTO? What happens if you lose in a 6.0 gto? Get a LS2 vette? Then you lose in the LS2 vette, LS3 vette?

Throw a cam in the GTO. I had an LS1 GTO cam, stock heads, headers, etc and my best pass was 12.54 at 115. That is more than enough to beat a stock Fbod and an LS2 GTO. For about $800 you can really wake up your '04 goat. I am assuming you already have LT's since you said you were making 330 rwhp and that is what a LT's only LS1 GTO makes.

I own a stock ss camaro and i race it all the time. no one can beat me im INVINCIBLE. my car is secretly a transformer. i would love for someone to send a stock 05 or 06 GTO my way and ill show them a lesson. i stay in lodi if you ever want a piece of this camaro. Just playing guys dont get your panties in a bunch. but i would still like to run a stock 05 06 pontiac gto to see if there really is a difference. me and my bro in his gto will be at sac raceway this wednesday. just ordered some Nittos Extreme Drags. so hopefully this will better our 1/4 mile times.

Old thread I know.... but I wondered the same thing and raced my buddies 05 gto tonight. Both his gto and my 2000 ss are 6speeds, his is bone stock with 19k on it mine has slp catback and 85mm throtle body so still pretty much stock. Took off 3 times from dead stop and I had him from the line, ran to about 130ish and backed off and was still pulling then and was ahead about 3-4cars. Anyone else got stories about gto's?

I had a close race with a cammed 6.0 gto 6speed vs my 5.3 cammed cutlass. Our weights are probably close, and I have a stock converter in mine. I wasn't impressed with the gto.

ls1 fbody and ls2 GTO are as close as one could get to each other. stock for stock, mod for mod. we really gonna retread this?
