Default 96 Formula VS 96 Cobra...

So my friend recently came back to town to hang out, and he has a 96 Cobra, Stock aside from a open/broken catback, and a short shifter. My car has a GMMG, Short throw, and a K&N CAI. He kept asking if I wanted to run my car against his, since I just got it and he hadn't seen it before... but I knew he would beat me (I was thinking about 2 lengths), so I said no...

We left our friends house the other day and I decided **** it, hes next to me now, so I cant bitch out... We were both at 40-45mph in 2nd, 3 honks and we were off... Neck and neck, I hit third, and pulled about a fender, then he shifted and I ended up with my nose at the back of his door until we let off at 95-100mph.

I didn't think that was too bad.

What do you all think?

I'd say you did pretty good man. LT1s are still a strong runner and the cobras weren't to bad. From personal experience of my buddies 98 cobra be would go 13.8@102 with just a midpipe.

Yeah a buddy of mine has a cobra (LT's/Full exhaust, 4.10's)...13.6 on street tires...

Now hes got a stroked block with ported heads, bigger cams, and a Procharger waiting to go in his car this winter.

Sounds like he's got a lot of money going into that thing. Cam's alone for those 4v's run around 1k.

Oh yeah... Its a shawn highland Shortblock... and the cams are expensive as well as the porting on heads/intake... then theres the fuel system and ignition system, and then THE ALMIGHTY PROCHARGER.... but he'll have a 900rwhp street legal car, and hes ... only 19 years old.

96-98 cobras have some good top end with there 3.27 stock gears. My brother went 104 with just exhaust, intake, and u/d pulleys, but hung with me for a bit when my car was stock(108mph)

Good race! Those 96-98 Cobras are definitely no slouch. You got any plans for more mods?

I meant the CTS-V but thats when I was stock and averaged 106-108 mph in the 1/4. Id pull about a car on him from 65-100.

Try $1200 for an off the shelf set. And like you said that doesn't include any part of the valvetrain.

Ditto! The only cobra that I couldn't have got with my old LT1 was the 03 and ups(obviously). I ran an 01 vert and pulled it by a car within 2nd gear.

My car was a 94M6 with a bbk TB, cold air, ypipe an single dumped exhaust(factory manifolds). It had LCA's and SFC's as well but still wasn't "fast". I wouldve expected u to have gotten him by a car or so...

Not trying to rain on the parade or anything btw, just sharing my experience. The 96 I raced I had by about 2 lengths and I spun like a **** when we started.
My car was good for high 8's in an 1/8th(like 8.9-9.1)

Nice run op! Outcome sounds perfect. Both cars are within a couple tenths of eachother. Drivers play a huge role in a race that close.
