Default 2009 G8 GT vs 2006 STI Dig Run

PSM and I were cruising in the G8 tonight on our way to meet some friends for food and I was just telling him that we needed to find a race when we came to a light behind a car and a blue STI (with spoiler delete) pulls past us on the left. As it went by the two guys inside were checking out my car. We decide to put off food for a few minutes and see if they were game.

We got through traffic so no one was in front and we played tag a few times. A couple times it looked like I was pulling him a bit and sometimes it looked like we were pretty even. Either way it was making for a good matchup.

We toyed around for a few miles and finally got to a light that was just turning red with no one in front of us. Two people in each car and PSM looking to try out the camera on his new i-phone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFff8Xhc8uM

Afterwards I got him to roll down his window and told him it was a good race and he said, "Yeah, remember you beat me in my GT a while back!" Once he said that I instantly remembered the race a couple years ago where we lined up on the highway and I pulled a bit on his bolt-on 2003 Mustang GT with 4 people in my car, lol. He had been really cool about that race and had said he had heard that G8's were fast and wanted to find out.

He just got this car and it's a bit different from launching/driving the Mustang, so I think he could probably beat me with a little practice. We pulled over for minute and talked and he said that his car is a 2006 STI with "exhaust and a Cobb stage 2 tune".

He also said that he's going to end up selling the STI and that he wants to get back into a Mustang, preferably a Cobra.

Very fun, friendly race, and just the fix I needed after a long winter

Good kill! Glad you got it on video.
I didn't think a stock G8 GT would beat a stock Sti, let alone a modded one. What do those older Sti's run?

Great run! STI's can be modded to rock out - I would keep if I were him.

I know about 3 people with Cobb stage 2 STi's. They all run the same low 13's @ 105ish. The G8 might only trap 102-105 but it's gonna whoop an equally trapping STi once speeds get going.

Awesome video; looks like it was a pretty close race. I'll have to race him when my car goes back on the road . I'm glad to see someone is still getting races this time of year!!

He definitely could get more out of the launch, but the G8 has more up top.

Nice run!

Good runs, I heard PSM is a little slow and tapes things upsidedown...only to be saved by Youtube.

That guy definitely needs to work on the shifting. After hearing the 1-2 shift, I went and made some macaroni during the 2-3 and took a fat **** during 3-4.

On a serious note, that STI sounds damn good.

Nice kill! I enjoyed watching that vid, I have a lot of respect for STi's, well built they can be pretty quick. Definitely looks like you were edging on him up top, but I also agree he was lagging to much in-between his shifts and if they were improved he may have pulled a bit. It looked like a really good match though, makes me want to get a good race in!

I raced a similar 06 STi when I had my 2000 SS. It was from a roll but everything else was close your race. We each had a passenger, he had a DP, cat-back, and Cobb tune. I had a Lid abs Cat-back. We were even until the top of second and then I started pulling slowly. Really great cars, and they sound sweet too!

Good kill once again.

great race Ron! i'll agree with the majority, he needs a driver mod but doesn't matter now - u got the W!

Also, I hope he has an intake/filter on with an exhaust and stage 2 cobb tune or else that tune will be really bad lol

Thanks guys! It was pretty much the perfect scenerio, cruising around and randomly running into a car that was a great race for my car. Also, I've been itching to get a good stoplight race since I haven't had one of those in a long time.

Before I ever raced one, I thought I would get pulled by a stock STI from any race, dig or roll, but then I raced my friend's (stock except for exhaust) and was pleasantly suprised:

I do agree that the one I raced last night probably could be faster than my car from a dig is he practices a bit. Maybe we'll get the chance to find out!

Here's the race from a while back against the same guy when he had his bolt-on 2003 GT. Don't mind my girlfriend's friend, who apparently thought she was going to die via the extreme G-forces from my 13 second car accelerating. (Crappy camera phone)

Can't say as far as that goes. He didn't mention it and he didn't open the hood, so who knows.

So did you finally cure the no-race blue ***** last night? I guess you cut the part where you made it snow in your car?
