Default 01 z28 vs. 05 mustang + bolt ons- owned

My car- 2001 Camaro z28 m6 w/ magnaflow catback, kn drop in, and skip shift eliminator

vs.

05 Mustang- full exhaust, 4:11 gears, underdrive pulley and a tune

I thought i was going to get owned but we went from a dig and he pulled me off the line 2 cars (due to bald 245s on my side) but i caught traction and was coming around him by the time i was shifting into 3rd.

2nd race we went from 30 mph and i owned him, bad like 3-4 lenghts by the top of 3rd

He wouldnt give up so we raced a couple more times and same outcome...

The mystery to me is i bought my car from an estate sale and the owners son didnt know much about it. I am thinking it might have something done to it like ls6 drivetrain or something. Or is this kill right on?

That will is right on. Good kill. You have the better of the LS1 combos. Check out the differences in years in the newbie tech section, and you will see that you have a LS6 intake, and some other goodies.

Sounds plausible that you just have one of the better running fbodies. For some reason, some fbodies run alot better then others and no one really knows why.

I would have thought it would be you only slowly edging him out up top but it appears you flatout walked away from him from a roll. Good job!

My friends auto, 3.73's, and full exhaust on 20"s 3v went 12.8 at 109. My 02 z28 with full exhaust, lid, and 2.73s went 12.8 at 109. So a gear would put the ls out there in my case, but idk by how much.

Doesn't matter, you won lol, Kill is a kill!

It should be no surprise ls1 will kill a three valve stock to stock game over. Three valve stangs are slow even with a gear and a few boltons you should win. A good driver can drive a m6 f body to very low thirteens gm high tech went 12.80 with a bone stock z28 in 1999 the took the lid off I think ..... That s on rsa goodyears put a nito or bfg ect.... And keep going down on the times . I think a lot of guys on here have lost sight on how fast 4 th gen are . It just seems that way now

You don't think a bolt-on/geared 3V can run 12s?

Good kill OP. I thought it may be closer, but anything can happen on the street.

Ive driven a few 05+ stangs and in my opinion they drop off too much between shifts. Suprisingly once they get higher in the rpms on the highway they do pull nice. I raced a full bolt ons one a while back and although i pulled on him it wasnt fast and he did well.

No sir........ they are junk. If you need a huge gear and boltons to go twelves that's sad... stock to stock no contest, you know that if you don't you should. unless your a ford guy. if that's the case you can't be helped, just beaten badly every time you go out and race an ls lol

So are you disagreeing with me or not? Stock vs. stock of course the F-body should win, but the gap is not nearly as large as you make it out to be. If you don't like them that's cool, but you are on the verge of sounding like a silly high school student.

I didn't realize it was possible to be that close minded.

No no, he's right, Ford doesn't even have one car that comes factory running 11's. LOL

The best I've ever seen a full bolt-on/geared (his claims) auto out here run was low 13's with a 1.7 60 ft so 12's should be possible and then on the other hand I've seen a manual 3V not even break out of the 13's (full bolt-on's, gears, cams)

Then I've seen some 3V guys struggle to break into the 13's. Seems driver mod on the Mustangs out here in Iowa is rare to come by. I thought they were supposed to be on par with the LS1 F-body

3Vs are a tick behind Mach 1s, all other things equal. But you guys have to remember, there are WAY more 3V Mustangs out there than LS1 F-bodies, so there are also tons of people with those cars that can't run the number. It really is as simple as that.
