Default LS1 RX7 vs 5.0 Mustang GT

First night out with the RX7 and I was looking for a fight. Found one pretty quickly. Newer Ford Mustang GT 5.0. I don't know any specs about it but it looked and sounded mean. Kinda floored it going by him and we pulled up to the next stop sign neck and neck. Both of us took off from a dig. Haven't raced this car yet so I floored it. Spun the tires for about 30 or more feet as the stang pulled on me by 3-4 car lengths. I gotta learn how to launch this thing on street tires. As soon as I got traction I reeled him in quickly and passed him easily. He was surprised at the next light. "Does that have a turbo in it?" No, i said... LS1.

Car is still not running right. I can hear popping or misfires when accelerating slowly. Also, kinda wants to stall when stopping at a light but it recovers after a few seconds. I have to figure that out. Otherwise, pulls strong!

Stock LS1 with LS6 intake, 4l60E, 04 Cobra rear end.

The IRS is bolted into the stock locations and is very sturdy. There have been quite a few RX7s running this exact setup without problems. Thanks for the compliments!

That car is all sorts of confused. Mazda, Ford, Chevy. The Mazda and Ford part ok. But throw the Chevy in there and it gets all weird. Sounds like it runs damn strong though.

Yeah, it's a bastard! It does run pretty strong. I really don't know how fast 5.0s are or what that particular 5.0 had in upgrades. But the car didn't seem as fast as it looked. Beautiful looking mustang, though.

Actually, I don't even know how fast my car is. Never been to the dragstrip.

LS engine fits better then the friggin mazda rotory! Believe it's lighter, too. so much for all that vaunted "rotory power is the most compact, best power to weight engine in the world" crap all the rotory guys love to spew.

Cool rx....I was expecting a 3rd gen.
rotary motors are a great design....just no one ran with it and very few can work on them. I know a guy who does great rotary builds....but its all he knows.

Actually, the LS1 is heavier. I'm pretty sure it's about 30lbs heavier if I remember correctly. But it does fit really nice in the engine compartment.
