Default R6cowboy puppy kicking bolt-on LS1 Z28. Dude coming back with a cammed IROC Z

Leaving work earlier this week in the C5 I come up behind a LS1 Z28. We both pull into the petro station to fuel up then head out down the interstate with him leading the way. He points to an off-ramp and we turn off on a stretch of interstate that is very lightly traveled. We line up at a 50 roll and I honk it off. We both get an even hit and I pull multiple buses on the Camaro and let off at 130. Dude comes back up and we do it again with the same outcome. We take an exit and pull over to chat. Guy was really cool and we talk for awhile. He said the Z28 was an auto and "almost" stock, just some bolt-ons. He could here I was cammed but other then that nothing else about my car was mentioned. The guy said the Z28 is his daily and he has a cammed '87 Iroc Z he'd like to race me with and thinks it might be able to keep up, so we exchange numbers. Well I talked to the guy and he's bring the IROC out later today for a piece of the C5. We'll see what happens.

I'm hoping homeboy's Iroc-Z is actually built good and puts up a good race.

Was the Z28 red? If so I might know this guy, only he lives about 30 minutes from your city.

His IROC had better be sporting big aftermarket heads, aftermarket intake, and all supporting mods to go with that cam to even have a ghost of a chance. Dudes gonna get smoked IMO, and badly. Don't even think a cam only IROC with a 150 shot could hope to keep up with you.

It was the dark red color. Yeah, the guy is from the city I work in, Princeton. Which is about 30 minutes away from where I live.

All he said was the IROC was cammed. So I'm thinking what you are, hoping he has A LOT of work done or a bunch of nitrous to go along with that cam. In the meantime, I'm not going to talk **** or underestimate. Just sit back, wait and see.

Nice! can't wait to hear how this one goes down. IROCs tend to fuel the craziest stories... nearly every owner I've ever met has run from the police and gone over 200mph.

Default Run with the IROC

Well turns out the Iroc was not a disappointment (stalled auto btw). This thing indeed gave me one hell of a run. The guy's gf took video from behind but I don't have it right now. We head out with a few of his friends tailing us. Dude's gf in his almost stock LS1 Z28 , some guy in a '93-'96 Z28 and one of his homie's in a pretty big turbo Neon. We line up first to do a 50 roll (he said 50 was a good spot for him too), I honk it off and we both get a clean hit. I pull a nose on him then it stays pretty even though 2nd, he gained the nose back when I hit to 3rd and it stays even until I hit 4th, then I start slowly walking him. At the top of 4th he's down about half car. When I hit 5th he immediately drops back hard and I see a big cloud of smoke trailing from his car. Turns out, #1 cylinder went boom.

We all pull over and shoot the **** for awhile. When I walked up to his car with the hood open I see the N2O lines. So the details on his '87 Iroc; LT1 swap, 125 shot of nitrous, LT4 hotcam, stalled auto, 3:73 gears, headers, full exhaust, misc bolt-on's, Nitto DR's and some suspension mods. Said he runs 11.3 in the quarter, and it's definitely not hard to believe after seeing it run. I was relieved that he wasn't bullshitting and actually brought a car that could hold its own.

Was some really good racing and met some cool people.

Good run, sounds like both of your cars are (were? lol) running strong. Those LT4 parts can work wonders on LT1 cars. Nitrous helps too of course
