Default My Nismo vs. 1JZ 240sx

After a night of runs with friends me and my buddy snuck this one in on the way home. I was alseep on the hit on the first one so I sprayed just to **** around, but the second run was only motor. I did kinda jump the start on the 2nd run though. I blame the camera man and his signaling skills for the uneven starts
We are re-running after the 240 gets a tune, it's very rich at the moment.

Good runs. I agree the sound is sick.

What size shot and what did you use to tune it with?

Z has only K&N drop-ins/test pipes/exhaust, the 100 shot and it's tuned via Cobb AP by me.

The 240 he just bought, it's supposedly a stock 1JZ swap with a big fuel pump and some other supporting mods but it's running very rich, possibly has bigger injectors. He's installing the SAFC and tuning this weekend. Hoping for a good re-run soon.

Nice runs, those nissans sound awesome for a v6. I didn't think they we're that fast tho, what does it run or what should it run?

They're not fast without power adders.

On motor it's low 13's, on bottle it's gone 12.5 @ 114 with a 2.1 60'. Hoping to pop into the high 11's next time out with a decent launch.

If you're trapping 114, how are you expecting 11s?

Do those HRs pick up much gain from the Cobb tuner NA? Asking cause I have an 07 G35S sedan with the HR. Always heard its hard to make any gains with them.

No. In fact Cobb stopped making them for a while for the vq platform.

6mt car, the Z's never came with paddle shifters, the automatics were only manually shiftable by using the console shifter. And thanks!

All the other nitrous cars that trap anywhere near me are in the 11.8-11.9 range. I ran the 12.5 with a horrendous launch, I was cutting 1.9 60's later in the night but I wasn't comfortable spraying 1st gear without a window switch, which i've since installed. Now that i've somewhat learned how to launch the car and will be able to spray properly the car should be there, it has the power for it.

No, NA is very hard to make power, a tune does very little. The engine is very efficent flow-wise and there just is no major gains left on that displacement. From stock to fully bolted/tuned is only about a 30whp gain. 10hp of that is just the test pipes, which are the only real effective mod that can be done. Most people pick up 7-10hp on a tune but the HR is very good on A/F from factory with the wideband setup the car has. Most of the gain is in timing that can be bumped up for better octane, the car is based on a very safe timing map.

I ran 11.66 at 116 mph, 11.7 at 114 and 115 mph. Only reason I'm trapping 118.5 now is because I locked the stall up top, which did nothing for my ET. Traps can be confusing when it comes to ET and are not always the most accurate thing to go by.

Thanks for the info! Glad I haven't wasted any $$$$ on it.

I'd suggest just test pipes if you want a little extra punch, they yield a solid 10 whp and are quite cheap, if you are staying stock exhaust you can use straight ones just fine, should probably go resonated or HFC's if you have aftermarket exhaust on the car.

Yea its bone stock as it sits. Actually pretty stout feeling car even compared to my SS. Awesome gearing, suspension, and brakes in those cars.

Assuming the test pipes will need to be tuned out to keep the CEL off?

Some people have success with using an anti-fouler to re-position the O2 further out of the stream but in general these cars are too sensitive and will set a P0420 code anyway. The secondary sensors are also wideband and really pick up any difference. Some people get CEL's with HFC's from time to time.

I'd plan on tuning after the test pipe install at some point, yeah. I had to kill mine via the COBB, it popped on after 2 drive cycles.

Not sure its worth all that for a tenth. They did an awesome job with the car at the factory, but it sucks no having any more than that left on the table.
