Default Humbled a new IS-F this morning

I am on the road at 6 am. I live in the burbs. I was riding the feeder road of beltway 8 in a pretty desolate area still sleepy and cruising at 60-62 mph pretty much by myself. I notice a car cruising behind be doing about 75 mph and goes past.

At this point I am still sleepy and just observing his aggressive driving. We come up to a light and it just so happens we both end up at the front at the light next to each other.

At this point I could not resist and always wanted to try one of the IS-F's.

We take off gently at the light until about 20 mph then we hit it. I immediately get to a two car jump on him and gradually a 3 but could not pull more than that, we got a pretty long stretch we cut off at about 130 mph due to traffic coming off the beltway onto the frontage road.

I love pissing on someones cheerios like that when they get a new ride and think they are king of the world. lol

By the way I have a completely stock 07 CTS-V.

You sure that was an IS-F? A stock IS-F should pull a pre-09 CTS v easily. They trap about 115mph stock. Also remember there are some IS350's with the "F" badge on them to indicate that they are F sport cars. (better brakes and suspension. kind of like S-line Audi A4's)

Good kill though....

I buy cars for a living..I know what they look like. lol.

4 exhaust tips are a dead giveaway on those.
I have driven lots of first gen v's at our dealership and mine has been the strongest pulling first gen I have driven.

If you got a solid jump in your ideal powerband and he didn't I can see it happening...there are too many variables to say, "well since this car out runs that car on paper, there's no way".
Here's an 07 cts-v that I killed time and time again when we both hit it around the same time:
But yet when he jumped from a low highway pull(wasn't recording) I couldn't reel him in at all. The variables such as the jump and ideal rpm/gear are a huge factor.
My point...if the owner of that cts-v came on here to share the run we did on the highway, how he ran my truck and I wasn't gaining an inch on him(with everyone knowing my truck traps higher in the 1/4, just as everyone knows the is-f traps higher) most would tell him, "no way...it can't be..that truck traps higher..he would definitely start pulling you".
Sorry for the lengthy post..just kills me how many people can't realize that there are many other important factors in a race besides power.

Like I said not all CTS-V's drive the same. I have driven about 5 first gens at our dealership and some definitely felt tired. My 07 with 40k has felt the tightest and most powerful by far. The only one that felt quicker was a supercharged 04 with 20k.

I am sure I got the jump on him which gave me the results I had.

The stats on an 2013 is not all that.

Engine: 5.0 liter, DOHC V8
Power (SAE): 416 hp @ 6600 rpm
Torque: 371 lbs-ft @ 5200 rpm
Redline: 6800 rpm
Gearbox: 8 speed automatic
Curb Weight: 3780 lbs.
0-60 mph: 4.2 sec.
1/4 mile: 12.7 sec.

Now compare my 07

6.0L V-8 LS2 engine with 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 395 lb.-ft. (536 Nm) of torque. It achieves 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds with a top speed of 163 mph (262 km), and the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds at 109 mph.

On paper should win of course but stats are close enough to that driver difference and possible initial jump has the outcome that happened. Wish we had a chance for a second shot and I am sure he does too. lol

I will be looking for him every morning from now on and maybe it will happen.

The cars are close enough that whoever has the jump is likely to get the W.

If he wasn't in sport mode and if you got the jump I could see it happening.

An 8 speed paddle shift is hard to beat, factory freak or not.

Getting the jump at 20mph in 1st means you were RIGHT in your powerband, and he probably was in like 40th by 20 and then when he stepped down, it downshifted to 2nd maybe but still didn't have enough power to reel in. had he known... i think he would have pulled.

Good kill

Believable kill if he spun or made ANY kind of mistake during the race. They really are only a tad faster/quicker then a GTO which is only a tad faster then a CTSV.

115mph in a stock ISF? Get off the crack rocks lol.

I saw one doing 112mph in negative DA at my local track. 115mph is not happening.

Good kill OP! I lol'd hard when you said **** in someone's Cheerios haha.

115mph stock? More like 110.

Seemed to be the other way around from what I've seen, only because the CTS-V's 3.73 gearing vs the 3.42s in the GTO.

I agree, again I have driven many GTO's at the dealership and they don't compare to my CTS-V. They compare more to the G8 GT.

Mine sounded great, tire chirps and I think even in 4th, three car lengths back could not hear the IS-F. lol

Well I never raced a 1st gen V during the 2 months I kept my GTO stock. Ran two when I was headers/catback/predator tuned and one when I was headers/catback/vavaram CAI custom tuned and had a steady walk on them. With those mods I was running 12.9-13.0 @ 107-108mph (2k+ DA) and saw two of them run consistent in the 13.7+ range in the 1/4. Same time that a herd of variously modded 1st gen SRT8's were running 13.6-14.0.

As far as on a track, the notorious CTSV launching problems would give a GTO (itself not a darling of the 60') the advantage. Same engine/power but the V weighs at least 150lbs more.
