Default 79 camaro 454 h/c 700r4 vs exhaust only 99 camaro

My buddy just picked up a 99 Camaro to add to his collection, of a 67` bbc Camaro runs mid 10`s, his 79` Camaro, and now his 99.

79`
454
h/c/I/e
staled 700r4
street tires

99`
headers and catback m6
presumably tuned

I drove the 99` he drove the 79`, I left traction control on like a dumbass.

It's just a mild built 454, pink rods, stock or hyper pistons , upped compression nothing wild at all. Rectangle port iron heads and a custom cam I lelieve, double pumper etc.My friends and his father are avid drag racers and how this came about was the son said the 99 would be faster and dad said no way, it's a built 454! Few minutes of arguing and we went out and settled it. This was my first time ever driving an LS f body lol

Built 454? He "built" a lazy 250hp boat anchor?

well. GK OP.

his car is either bad mods OR bad tires because....

L88/89 or L88/89 style square port heads with just about ANY solid cam, 9.5:1, 780 cfm,and long tubes makes the kind of power and torque a LS1 with bolt on can only dream about.

stock true square port heads flow over 315 cfm. bolted onto a 454 with the most basic mods is an easy 600hp. 79 camaro is not a boat anchor either. 3400 lbs maybe a bit more with a big block.

i like today's motors, but for all out power a cheap square port 600-800hp 454 is hard to beat.

Like I said nothing wild, small hydraulic cam, 2,500 stall iirc, car weighs 3,900 without driver. Up untill he bought this 99 he daily drove this car. His other bbc runs mid tens with pro conp heads, cam, 2,800 stall and slicks, so I think they know what there doing with bbc lol
