Default 86 GT gets treed by Chevrolet Camaro FTL

DISCLAIMER: This is a track race, not a street race. If it hurts your feelings that this is in SRK, PM big hammer - he has mod capabilities and would love to hear your thoughts on ways to improve SRK.

Took my pile to the track again this week, only got 2 runs in Wednesday night - 3 runs total with this car since I modded it.

I was lined up with a modded 98-02 auto Camaro, could hear at least exhaust and stall, no idea of other engine work. He treed the **** out of me, even though I ran the faster time and MPH. I was catching him hard at the big end, 10 more feet of track and I think I would have had him.

Mods - 86 Mustang 302 - heads/cam, driven everywhere (daily driven to work when weather cooperates). 125k miles on stock 302 shortblock. Only "weight reduction" is weight saved from swapping parts i.e. aluminum heads.

DA was around 1600.

Slip:

In 3 runs I've gone from 12.3 @ 114, to 12.1 @ 115, to 11.9 @ 116. Some small changes and better air will get me deeper, I hope!

That's a good time for a 302, put a 351w in there and let it eat

That MPH is low so no cam, probably has full bolt ons and a stall

I think.....someone said I'd be lucky to run a 13.0......................................

Mappin - the 351 route would be cool, but I'd want different heads, cam, intake, exhaust, blah blah blah that all amounts to dollar signs. I'm not one for just "swapping parts over" from a 302 to have a meh 351 setup.

My buddy built a 302 2 times and blew it up, finally went 351
(His motor 302 was a cursed 331) after he sold it, the new owner built it over and blew it up a third time

That camaro was probably just stall and exhaust. MPH is too low for full bolt-ons.

Yeah, I'd go a different route, too, if I did that!

WSsick's old Camaro had headers, true duals, intake, lid, some other **** - he referred to it as "full bolt on", and he trapped mid 112s consistently. Now, I'm sure hammer and Doug will say it's not proper - I don't consider WR to be bolt-on, and WSsick's car had no intentional WR at all, just power mods.

That said, at our track (which isn't the best by any means), an auto, I could see it trapping slower.

My 00' z28 consistently trapped 116 in typical summer weather and had a hero pass of 117 in better weather. I wasn't even close to full bolt-ons. 3150 RW... 3800 stall, SUX2BU ram air, LT's, ORY, bullet, lid, 3:23 gears. HP Tuned by me. Still could add UDP, electric water pump, intake manifold, etc...

A mild H/C/I 302 running 11s and outrunning bolt-on/stalled LS1 Fbodys. Imagine that. Lol
Good run snake.

Cool loudblack, that's not what happens here, and your race weight is about 200 pounds lighter than my race weight, as well.

Thanks R6!

Yeah full bolt on should be higher, I've seen WR and FBO go 118/119

My car is full intake full exhaust and I refer to it as FBO, but its not

Yes but the difference between different people's definition of "full bolt-on's" is about as wide as the Himalayas.

Nice job snake, that's a good running fox!

I'm going to try and get out there next Wednesday if I can, I'll come by and say hi if I see you there. Are you planning on spraying your car? That's a pretty quick street car and will surprise alot of people for sure. Do you do any car cruises down the river road or do you just strictly run at the track?

Damn Snake! You got that car moving!!!

Great job on the build and on your track runs. Very cool and impressive to say the least.

I had a feeling your car was going to run hard.
