kill story (video to come) 2000 Camaro SS vs 2011 5.0 6MT
so tonight i finally got to race this one guy with a 5.0 i wanted to race for weeks
His car had nothing but him in it, stock with axle backs (sounds louder than my straight through no cat true duels)
Mine is ls6 intake, lid, full exhaust, not tuned yet and i had a metric crap ton of stuff in the car because i had to leave work and race him i couldn't stop home and dump it off because the guy wanted to leave (he waited on me for 40 minutes)
OK NOW FOR THE RACE
I wanted a 60 roll, i thought it would be me walking the **** out of his car
first race didnt go well so we lined up again
-60 MPH he is holding up his fingers and i am trying to watch so he got a small hit. I stopped his pull but i could not pull back the full car length he got on me but i pulled back until 3rd ran out , so at 130 ish i went into OD and then my pull stopped and we let out around 140-145 (ended with my front bumper at his rear bumper)
next run i wanted a 30 roll because why not
30 MPH i tried to honk it off but he ended up not hearing me so i missed his 3rd finger and he got a good hit, i threw it into first and back into 3rd (spun a little, not much) he gets out a car and i run him down really hard, go into third gear too low in RPM my car usually shifts at 6,100 but went into 500 too soon, didnt matter too much but it allowed him to get almost next to me, i started pulling really hard again at 5,500 (123 MPH) and i am in front and he told me when this part happened he was starting to yelll NOOOOO, i held it out as far as 3rd would go went into OD and kept inching
i was really bumbed how fast his 5.0 is compared to others i have ran but none the less i lost the first and won the second
i ran a 380 wheel horse power M3 from a 60 roll that only pulled me 2 cars and that car runs bottom 12s.

Given that the driver can drive: A stock one would be close. A tuned one might beat you, but tuning your car will put you ahead. A bolt-on 5.0 would absolutely murder you regardless, they'll give a cam and bolt-on LS1 hell.

That's like asking where all the 11.60-11.70 camaros are. There were a ****-ton of cars sold, not all of them are modified and not all of them are driving at the track, and even fewer of those can drive. But those who can are running mid 11s around 116-118.

You only pay attention to my posts that regard LS1s. That is due to the large chip on your shoulder, not me. Look around bud, I compliment many people on nearly every thread...the second I mention an LS1 in anything but absolute reverence, there you are...

While track times are both smaller percentages of both Camaro and 5.0 populations, they still indicate that they're fairly close until you start going into max-effort builds that are outliers. I don't get why this comes as such as surprise, even four years later. The LS platform is great, but the 5.0 platform is full of potential too.

And just like you've said, they haven't given you issues. But what is that indicative of? Nothing really, since we 1. don't know any specifics and 2. it's a tiny population that you've ever run. Just because a few haven't, doesn't mean that they all won't.

Dude I agree with that 100%. The 5.0 is an awesome platform and has huge potential, and maybe I do run a tiny population.....st Louis is pretty small and on Friday nights there's 600-700+ cars at our track. But that's neither here nor there, I know that there are fbo 5.0 that beat cammed ls1's, but if it's a proper built ls1 the odds aren't in the 5.0. It can happen, but it's lead to believe on this site that these two platforms aren't even in the same ballpark.

lol look at the hp and weight difference......5.0 dyno around 380ish bone stock right? roughly 10rwhp for every 100lbs? Do the math man, I think these cars do really well for what they are especially if you look at the hp vs weight. it's pretty comparable.
