That's happened at the 1/2 mile events as well... not sure why but some of the hoods tried to fold in half.

Even happened to an fbody...

They sound nasty!
Just imagine how big of a head one could develop with driving around on the street with 2000Hp. You would probably feel invincible.

Too much air getting trapped under the hood creating high pressure/front end lift at speed. A splitter and undertray would decrease lift (increase downforce). Some sort of extraction hood would also relieve under-hood pressure.

I guess the question is why? Other C5s push those speeds without it happening... Maybe a system mod? or luck?

Any stock hood C5 is going to generate a lot of lift under the hood at high speeds. When they are latched properly (hood in the OP wasn't latched on one side) it's probably not going to come off... but it will make the car unstable. Most of the standing mile racers at the very least pull the rear hood seal and many go with vented hood for the sake of stability.
