Default 2014 Camaro ZL1 vs Bama tuned Z28

So, I am confused or there is something I don't know. Cars are my 02' Z28 M6 vs a 2014 ZL1 A6 with tune, and heat exchanger.

I was expecting to loose this race by the same margin I won by and was surprised whenever I took off at the punch. No video this time sorry.

I was headed home (2-3 am) and a ZL1 drove up and I was immediately excited because I always thought they were bad *** and I wanted to race one. Anyways we Slow down to 55 or so and I honk and we get an even hit. I let out at about 145 and I was out in front of him my 3.5 cars easy.

So He slows down to do a 30 roll or so. I spin through 1st and hook mid second gear and again pull to 145 or so then let out. I was ahead by the same margin. We exit and he asks what I have done. I told him bama ghost cam tune only.

He says his car is tune and upgraded intercooler. Does this sound right? I was expecting to get walked if he had 580+ HP. I dyno'd 420 on a pretty hot (103 degrees) day, and I had valve seal leaks, and header leaks. All has been fixed now but I expect his car makes 500 rwhp or so? I guess another win for the bammarrow.

I'm really surprised you pulled him by that much. I'd expect it to be much closer with the edge towards the ZL1. Nice job

I actually raced one a while back (I assume it was stock) and only pulled maybe a car or two by about 120 mph

Thats what I am saying. He did have his girl and his kid in the car while I was riding solo.

There was room for another car between the two of us. I was surprised too. Maybe he threw some 87 octane in it or something?

Right lol. Either way you won so that's all that matters. Your car seems to run pretty strong for 413 rwhp...which just goes to show dyno numbers don't mean squat lol

Yeah I am thinking it makes more than that. I'll have to get it re dyno'd on a dyno night when its cheap lol or when i do Heads and intake. Everything that was broke is fixed and 103 is not exactly an ideal temp to dyno at.

To me a 121 trap speed says more than 413 rwhp in a full weight f-body....which helps explain how you beat that ZL1. I saw one trap 116 bone stock on a 80 degree day here in MI

I am thinking that it may be closer to 425-430? That was a decent run on street tires, I powershifted the **** out of it too. I ran it through this power calculator (uses trap speed to calculate) and at 3500 ibs and 121 MPH it says about 500 hp. So about 420 or so rwhp. I really wanted mid- low 11's but i'd need a tire and shortly after a rear end.

Take my car for instance. Don't have a dyno number, but it's a driver's race with my buddy's 500 rwhp 3500lb 03 Cobra, and his best run was a low 11 at 124. Now in theory my setup should make around 450 rwhp and weights about the same as my buddy's Cobra, but it's door to door race. So many variables involved lol.

I think your car is every bit of 430-440 rwhp

Nice! Yeah you got a good running car. I was upset when I first got it dyno'd because I got a big *** cam and was expecting more. I am thinking the same as you on that. Idk if I'd say 440 though. that seems a bit high but Plans are some 227 cc heads and a fast 102. Probably going to try for an E85 flex fuel tune while I am at it. Hoping to make 500 rwhp or somewhere close.

I want to hit low 11's but I dont want to drop 3k on a third member lol. Id rather have my heads and intake.

Yup on both. Just a dr tho not a slick. No doubt you would pick up pretty good on a tire.
