Default BMW vs LS1....

I want to say there is no competition between the BMW M5 and my ls1...but truthfully, when my buddy took me for a ride in his neighbors 85,000 dollar M5 i was seriously impressed w/ the speed, i know it has a V8..and i'm guessing a smaller 8 than an LS1...but does anyone have any knowledge as to a stock SS against a stock M5?? My SS has a full exhaust, airlid, and a bunch of suspension mods, figure i'm pushin around 340rwhp....he said he thinks the M5 is around 400...what do you guys think, any ideas?

what year...the 2003's ran about the same 1/4 mile et as a stock f-body or c5...so i'd say he's talking about 400flywheel hp which is about 340rwhp...so i'd say you'd be close to him...

I'm pretty sure its a 2001, we're gonna have to figure out how to get the guy drunk again so we can get the keys once i take the camaro back out this summer, then we'll run and see what happens.

I have only run against an M3 (2003 or 2004 I assume) an it was a 65 roll to 90 and I took it.

The M5 I would assume is a bit stronger. But I will offer my mag racing point of view...

From a launch to 60 mph the M5 will win and if you take it to 100 mph I think you will pull him in and then it is a drivers race.

You would most likely loose, the m5 has a MUCH wider power range and can hold power up too higher rpm's / speeds more than an ls1 can. Should be a good race though.

I think it would be a close race. If you know how to drive your car you'll have a shot. Those M5's are no joke.

I smoked a late model M5 in my Magnacharged Tahoe,I'd never seen anybody's jaw drop like his did when I slowed down to talk with him.

that's cause most people don't expect a full sized suv to run less than a 15 sec quarter...haha btw what does your tahoe run...at least give me an est. if you haven't ran it

lol that's classic!!!

My cousin has a 2003 MN6 M5 that I raced it at Cecil Dragway [Maryland] with around 11k miles on the odo and pulled a 13.2xx @ 108.xxx with a 2.0 60' on stock 18" tires.. just to give you an idea..

It's rated at 394 hp / 368 tq and weight 3930 lbs.. He paid $73,900 for it, brand new!

The car pulls strong stop or roll.. esp after 100 mph! .. comfort and handling wise, 140 mph in the M5 feels like 60 in my TA!!..

Stock for stock, it'll be an interesting race.. but don't expect to walk the M5, esp at higher speeds.. even more so if the road has curves

e46 m3's and e39 m5's are both drivers races; stock for stock. even smith ran an m3 to 12.8 @ 110 if i recall. m5 is 13.0 - 13.1

I can cover a 12.80 BMW with no problem, but I don't think I had to go that fast to beat the M5 I raced, the Tahoe was still pulling his BMW at 110+ when I lifted.I saw him showing off to his passenger raced from a roll and kicked his a$$.
