z28 vs. cobra

z28 vs. cobra
Ok so I have a 94 Z28 and I've only put on cat back exhaust. The other day I raced a 98 mustang cobra which supposedly has 305rwhp stock and I supposedly have 275rwhp stock but I dusted the cobra. My friend who owns the cobra has intake headers and exhaust. What is up with me winning hella bad? The only thing I can think of is the previous owner did stuff to the car that isn't visible or else z28's have more that the reported 275 rwhp stock. Sorry but this has been bugging me for a few days. What is your opinion on this?

no, your car is probably stock. even though those cobras were rated at 305 they prolly dont put down nearly that much. i used to walk all over my friends cobra with my bolt on 5.0. his car was geared and had exhaust with a few minor bolt ons. i also raced another black 98 cobra and it was the same outcome. today my formula is much faster than my 5.0 was (when it was almost stock). doubt your car has any "hidden" mods. its just fast.

The Mustangs aren't particulary as fast as they are percieved to be. Lets say Supercharged 4.6L vs. Stock 5.7L doesnt always mean victory for the Car with all the mods although I am surprised a stock z28 would beat a Cobra. Good Job!

LT1 F-bodies truthfully have about 300-310 FWHP or about the same as the Y-body LT1s (for gods sake noone responds saying "BS". The 4th gen F-bodies pull about the same RWHP as there Y-body counterparts LT1 and LS1). The LT1 F-bodies put down 230-270 RWHP depending on Tranny. The 96-98 Cobras put down about the same. 96-98 Cobras are neck and neck with LT1 F-bodies.

Also i have heard of "factory freaks" that come out of the factory and they are just plain and simple fast....im convinced that i have one and there are many others out there...when i first got my 93 z28 i beat some Ls1's all day....now i have more mods and iw ill pull on them hard same with older cobras like the one u raced....now the 2004's thats different..but good **** man

my 94 ta with an lt1 got dyno'd at 280rwhp with 348ft/lbs of torque with a few mods such as pwer program,k and n,1/6 roller rockers maf sensor, slp clutch, and raced a supercharged cobra and ran a car and a half behind not bad for the power i have, also raced a cadillac cts v and ran neck to neck.the one u raced isnt that fast lke these other guys are sayin put a few more east mods on yours and the numbers go up pretty good for a few dollars in mods ... drive safe and happy mustang *** kickin biggreek out from the motor city laterzzzzz....

Almost every stock lt1 that i have seen dynoed at my buddies shop put down 250-265 hp, depending on 6 spd or auto. Those year Cobras are highly over rated in the HP category so this is no big shock. My 97 auto in stock form put down 262 rwhp if I recall correctly.

If I remember right wasn't the 98 cobra recalled for having less HP than the GT. they claimed 305 but it put down more like 225.
ford always over rates their HP and chevy always under rates theirs. I don't know why?

speaking of factory freaks..... my car was one 13.02 @ 104.55 exhaust cutout, no serpentine belt and lt1 edit... 1.89 60' on street tires too or in other words about 278 rwhp stock
