Default Sti.... Ouch

Heading into work about 2 months ago i pull up to a Blue STI on the freeway and the guy looks over and starts to give it some gas as soon as we clear traffic i drop into 3rd and nail it he follows suit 110 comes around and he;s at my door, 4th gear he starts pulling me way hard upto to about 140ish by that point he's about 6-7 car ahead of me and i just back off. I pull up again and i give the thumbs up and go on my way that thing was way fast. I don;t have the fastest car but 341rwhp 351tq in a Intake only C5 Isn't bad. Anyways i wish i could have talked to the guy to get more info on that thing cause it sounded stock.

Funny you should mention that. I ran into one Saturday night (blue STI with at least an exhaust) on my way to meet a bunch of other LS1techers at Park N Ride. We went from about a 55 mph roll to 105. He got the jump but once I hit the gas I stopped his pull, but I never was able to start passing him. He wanted to run again, but I thought there was too much traffic. When I pulled back in behind him and SRT-4 came up and wanted to challenge. Don't know how that turned out. Would loved to have talked with the guy.

They run 105-106 stock in the 1/4, so I'd say he was slightly modded.

good run. that guy was definately not stock!

i raced one on the highway. when we started in top of second, i would pull pretty good about a car and then stay there. starting in third it was closer with me just barely inching ahead. that was without the lid. i was pretty suprised at how fast he was from a roll. good races. he beat me good twice when i missed third, but so long as i didn't **** up, i would get ahead.

At the track I run at they run a bit slower stock. 100-102. I but still, lightly modded nonetheless

Yeah I always thought that they kind of run out of steam on the top end

Trust me that is not the norm. Evo's and Sti's generally trap in the 101-103 maybe 104 range. Most about 102. A stock LS1 vs. stock Sti or Evo will usually trap a few mph higher, but because of the AWD quarter mile times are very similar, with LS1 pulling after the quarter. Again this is pertaining to completely stock cars. When mods start it is anyones game .

I was thinking about racing an STI. He's completely stock and says he could whoop my ***. Here are the mods on our car Mods:

Suspension:
*Intrax 2" lowering springs
*BMR Lower control arms
*BMR bolt-in relocation brackets
*Wolfe weld in roll bar, chromoly...professionally installed and painted to match interior

Drivetrain:
*4.10 GM gears, professionally installed
*TA girdle
*Spec Stage III clutch (approx 3K on clutch)

Engine:
*Stage III ported Total Engine Airflow heads...6.0l heads, 2.02/1.60 valves, dual spring, milled to 11:1 comp. (I have the flow sheet for these and they flow 300cfm at .550 lift...probably the best investment made on this car!)
*Comp custom grind cam 224/230 .554 lift 114LSA (fairly mild cam, ground more for nitrous than motor)
*hand ported holley intake
*MAC headers, ORYP
*Custom flowmaster exhaust, chrome tips, cut-out
*hardened pushrods
*direct-flo lid and k&n filter

Others:
*hurst short throw shifter
*custom box in t-top area w/two 12's (match the color of the car) w/amp
*rear blackouts
*Taylor plug wires

Who do you think will win?

Based on my Vette's (Automatic, which only has a Hot Cam PP LT1 heads, bolt ons and a horrible 2.59 rear) roll run with a lightly modded one, he has to be out of his mind if he thinks he can beat you.

One of my friends has an STI and has been doing all kinds of homework, with a turbo-back and tuning it will put down close to 280 at the wheels and run high-mid 12's @ about 105-110. there are also alot of turbo upgrades out there. they will range in output from 340ish to 400's at the wheels depending on turbo size and fule map (91 oct to 100 oct is easy 30whp with correct map) sounds like this guys may have had a small turbo upgrade or running a turbo back, with a 100 oct map. over all probly less then $3000 in mods. STI's are cool.
