Default stock WS6 vs 71 Buick Skylark 455???

Theres a new guy I work with whos got a 1971 Buick Skylark that came with a 350 but he said he put a 455 with headers, ported heads and some other minor things. He wont race me in my modded WS6, but he said he'd race me in my G/F stock 01 WS6 A4. he said the Skylarks rwhp was 330-350 and said its weight was 3400lbs. Its a real rust bucket and is primer gray and is on Goodyear Viva 2 street tires. I have no idea what those things run, but we will be throwing down $50, from a dig 1/4. I have a feeling I could take him real easy, but I saw that a 70 Buick GX or something that came with a 455 stock ran something like a 13.3 in the 1/4.

whats do you guys think?? should i race him in the stock 01 WS6, or take him on in my H/C WS6 without Juice?

Cars in primer can be very dangerous....I have one myself (a 1970 Olds). Buick and Olds 455s were torque monsters, rated at around 500 stock (a little less for the Olds, a little more for the Buick). If he has tires on the car, watch out. Otherwise, he won't be able to hook that monster up. His "minor" mods could be your downfall; heads, cam headers and exhaust, and he could be putting up some pretty big numbers.
I'd watch it with the A4.

*EDIT* Sorry, just re-read your post and saw that he wasn't running a drag radial or slick. Traction is definitely going to be an issue for him.

A '70 455 with the good high compression heads was
rated 360HP flywheel but about 500 lb-ft torque. The
block is pretty light, about the same as a SBC. The
4-link hits fairly well if he has good rubber on it. The
later 455 heads sucked ***. Still OK for torque but they
dropped the CR to 8.5 and made it wheeze.

I miss my Skylark too bad about the bone cancer.

The guy who's the T.A. in TA Performance used to run
a 10-second Skylark station wagon, but that had all the
Stage 1 / Stage II stuff on it.

Stangkilla, do you know what year the 455 swapped out was? As jimmyblue said, they dropped the compression later on (I think 1971). If it's a 1970 455, the thing will be a stump-puller. With ported heads, exhaust, and a cam, it could be dangerous.

The 455 back then can be moddified to be a killer. The best thing going for you (probably) if it is would be the tires and suspension if still close to stock.

The 455 I had in my 70' Grand Prix would surprise Mustang 5.0s and corvettes and Firebird/Camaros. And that was a boat. The skylark is lighter.

Be careful, I agree it sounds like a hustle. He knows he can beat the stock F-Body IMO.

I remember there was a debate for years between two muscle car clubs which was faster, a Hemi Road Runner or a Buick GS Stage 2. The first matchup the Buick won. The second Road Runner. The Coronet won with a 12.69 to the Buick's 12.78. I think it was a 4 speed. I don't think a TH400 would be much slower. That was a healthy 1970 model though.

Ill have to ask him what the block came out of, He still "working" on it, he said hes putting headers on it.
Im sorry but this guys a real retard, hes not the brightest person in the world, at first I ask him if we should do it from a dig or a roll, and hes like roll, "going from a stop is bad on my rearend" then I ask him again and hes like from a "dig". hes giving me **** cause I have NOS in my car, even though I wont use it on him. Im still trying to get him to race MY WS6, I think hes leaning tord racing it and not my G/F cause hes sooo sure he will win even with my H/C. As soon as this guy gets his head outta his *** we can get a race set up, hopefully within the next week. Ill keep you guys posted when it happens, and ill get it on vid.
