Default 99z vs. zr1 vette

i was driving around, bored as hell, up rolls a fox body 5.0 and a black zr-1 corvette late 80's early nineties it had the 4 lights but were squared not round, with the widest tires ive ever seen in my life.

we all take a left on the on ramp vette, me, then, 5.0. the vette rips on it and gets a good head start and stays ahead of me, but considering he had either a m5 or m6 and a head start and i have an a4 he wasn't pulling hard. from a 65 mph. rolls he punches it and i start pulling slowly until about 135.

meanwhile the 5.0 was studying the differences between a corvette and camaro's *** ends from about 10 cars back. If my memory serves me correctly weren't the older zr1's rated at 385 horse? if they are im tickled f?#$%ing pink. I was begining to think my car was slow (im getting used to it). Or is it really the slowest vette ever made and im borderline retarded?

My guess is that it must have been a regular LT-1 vette that put the badges on. ZR-1's are pretty damn rare and I believe they are 330 HP not 400 HP, but i could be wrong. Either way good race!

A real ZR1 (LT5) was rated at 375 horse to 405 horse. They are really rare. DOHC 32 valve parts are near impossible to find.

1. The ratings may have been a little more optimistic back then.
2. The engine may have been a little tired. 10 years old.
3. He sucks at driving.
4. You car makes a little extra power than rated.

He was pulling you, so my guess is a combo of some of the above.

BTW the LT4 grand sport vettes were rated at 330 horse. The ZR1 was a completely different animal, but the LT4 was similar to the LT1.

I think they are somewhere around 380-400 depending on the year. A guy back home had one......annoyed the hell outta me. It meant my formula was the second nicest/fastest car in town.

The first few years they were rated @ 385 hp then they pumped them up to 405 hp. the package was another $25000 on top of the $35000 car. I believe the motor was built by lotus, but that might be wrong. I remember the early versions ran mid to low 13's. They had the ugly vet wheels, later models had the famous zr1 rims.

Yea IIRC it was a joint thing with GM/Lotus/Mercruiser? Either way probably one of my favorite corvette models Nice job!

Whoops my mistake, 330 hp was the grand sport . If that was a real zr-1 thats awesome, ive never seen one on the street before only the grand sport, and that was once. Anyone know how many zr-1's were made in total?

this one had the ugly zr-1's. so it was probably the mid to low 13 car. which isnt to unbelievable for a 99z. although it would be nice to think my car could hang with a 400 horse vette. eh, someday.

Don't down yourself. Its still a ZR1 which is a relatively fast car. Congrats

I don't know where Hell Hole is (Paris Island? OOH RAH!! ) But how bout racing a real ZR1 driver! LOL! First to 170! If it was a real one congrads! Most are wannabe ZR1s. And by far most are never really driven especially the 405 HP 93-95 models

I don't want to go into the history but for those that want to know the right info on em can go to ZR1.net .

The ZR1s don't wake up until around 110-120 it seems like. I've heard that in the 1/4 the C5 Z06 would beat it, but from higher speeds the ZR1 was faster.

the ZR1 is really fast even before those speeds. By 2nd gear we hit 125 km/h. My dad's boss owns an artic white ZR1 and i got a small test drive and it was one of the best times in my life. The whole time i had the engine on semi power, and once i put it on full, it was freaking out. Those cars are worth A LOT! He never drives it no more, i think he bought it for like 29 000$ or so. $$$$$$$

well, if it doesn't wake up by 120 then ill never see one awake. ive been 165 and thats plenty fast enough for me. besides there isn't really any places to open it up much over 120 or so here in eastern, ct, nothing but hills, trees, and backroads.
