Default Why didn't I whip an '04 GTO?

Well, my brother has been talking **** about his M6 '04 GTO pretty much all of last winter. Well, I finally got my car running right and we lined 'em up today.

From a 25 roll, I pulled him by half a car up to about 80. I wasn't terribly impressed with that. My mods are in the sig. The only difference is I've since switched from the True Duals to a Hooker Catback and ORY.

My cousin has an A4 '04 GTO and we ran 'em from a 30 roll and I pretty much kicked his ***, put about 4 car lenghts on him up to about 85.

My bro is a pretty good driver. Is there that big of a difference between the M6 and A4 though?

Well, I'll be putting my stall in Thursday and we'll see what happens then.

EDIT: I also tried racing him from a dig, but the roads are still pretty cool here. I didn't heat 'em up enough at the light. On top of that, I tried brake torquing to about 1400 rpms on the stock verter. Needless to say, I left about a 15 foot patch of Nitto on the ground when I took off. That was sad.

There's a HUGE difference between A4's and M6's with the GTO's. Torque Management is horrible on the A4 cars, they lose a lot when the tranny shifts. Plus the GTO's don't have the same 6 speed as the f body's. They got the tranny that is used in the Z06, it's got closer ratios.

I see. That's pretty cool that they got the same ratio trans as the Z06. I guess that explains why MT got about .5 s quicker with the stick.

This the third time I've lost in 3 years. The first time my bro in his '04 Z06 whipped me, BAD. The second time was on Sunday when my friend ate me for breakfast in his '03 Cobra.

The Z06 is stock, but the Cobra has a 3.27 solid rear axle and ORX. When he was bone stock with the independant rear, I beat him twice from a dig and twice from a 25 roll by a front fender.

wait.... you went from a 30mph roll in your non-convertered A4 SS against the A4GTO? uhh... WHY? 30mph roll is just about the absolute worst place to race from on the stock conveter. I swear my bro's V6 pulls harder than my car at 30mph rolls...

0 good. 20-25 good. 60-65 good.
30 bad. 70 bad.

you're right that 40-50 isn't so hot, but it isn't nearly as crappy as 30. 50+ isn't too bad.

30 seems just fine to me. The trans shifts into 1st up to 32 MPH.

That's the total opposite of my car's powerband (M6).
50 and 70 are lethal on mine.

I was just being an ***.

But, to clarify, the 9" would have nothing to do with it, more like the 4.11's housed within the 9".

If I'm not mistaken in the GTO book that the dealers have I think it says the 05 GTO A4 runs 13.0 and the M6 runs a 13.1. Seemed a little off to me.
