Default Just drove brand new mach 1... Scouting report

I (unfortunately) work at a Ford dealership as a salesman, and we just got an '03 Mach 1 in today. While the Mach is an improvement over standard GT's, an ls1 Z/28 driver has nothing to worry about. The car pulls hard until 5000 or so rpm and the torque falls off hard after that, so in a race the LS1's nice, even powerband will help the car pull away fairly easily. To find out which is faster, my friend and I took out my Z right after the Mach, and my z was easily faster.
BTW, the Mach had 7 miles on it, and was hard to shift.

I've never liked the looks of the mustang but I'll give them credit, the shaker hood is a cool idea, I didn't think we would ever see another one of them, even if it really serves no purpose on the new model.

The Mach 1 Shaker hood scoop is functional.

I read something just last night, showing dyno numbers. I will try to find it later. I remember seeing 292rwhp written down and it said it had 800 or so miles on it and was still factory stock. An exhaust swap away from being fairly quick. I can't see why it fell short on RPM/power, since it's essentially just the old Cobra motor with a factory "shaker" induction. Those would easily run up to over 6K. I'd like to see one on the track though.

It'llrun, didn't you just call me a MAG racer. I think that you have been reading too many magazines. Let me guess you got that info from? MM&FF? Is that a Ford Magazine?

And that's EXACTLY what I think you are. I got that from the cars OWNER, thanks for asking. He sent me email and so I read it. Imagine that! If you knew half the things you think you do, you'd just shut up. You're starting to annoy me with your idiotic posts. Don't waste my time, following me thread to thread to start an argument. I don't have time for kids like you. Go do something constructive, MAG RACER! And take note of the post above this.... See what that SLUG Mustang ran??? Dreaming just isn't part of my daily routine. Even if reality SUCKS, you can't change it. Keep that in mind.

On another note (on this topic)
The Mach 1 has shown to be acceptable. Look what we're used to?

i think they are pretty neet.
I saw a red one today that was lowered with the saleen wheels and it looked pretty good. I gotta say, that engine with just exhaust sure sounds great. The shaker was a nice touch,(finnnnnally a functional scoop ) mabe fords starting to shape up.

13.3's?! All that I know is that I was looking sideways at my friend with it hammered in second gear, talking like normal-- quote: "feel that flat spot?" . When we drove my Z, I actually had to hang on and concentrate on driving the car. If that is a 13.3 car, the exhaust, ram air and whisper lid did more for my ET than I had thought...

How well did you seriously expect a brand new car with only 7 miles on it to perform? You'd be hardpressed not to break it, raggin' on it that way. Aside from that, not to knock your MADD SKILLZ behind the wheel but, I promise that you aren't one anybody would consider a "good" Mustang driver and you should be all too familiar with driving your Z. It's a brand new car that you're totally unfamiliar with. You aren't likely to drive it well.

Thats a smart person who's dragging their car with 7 miles on it..

you should wait at least 500 mil before even thinking of that so that all the internal parts have had heatcycles and are melting in properly.

A. Every engine is cycled 10000 miles before it is installed.
B. I drove it fine, since when is driving a car FAST beating on it?
C. Did I ever say I was redlining it or putting it sideways through three gears?
D. Why would you buy a Mustang anyway? Isn't this an LS1 technical website? (Maybe you Ford aficionados could put an LS1 in your 03 Mach 1. Maybe then it would perform.
E. I WAS IN THE CAR WITH A SALES MANAGER!!! I bet he'd be real happy with me beating the **** out of it, and I bet I'd do it right in front of him.
F. I drove it just to see how my car would stack up, after hearing all the mach 1 hype in the magazines.
G. And my boss is the one who couldn't find third.
To ITLLRUN: I didn't know you were in the car with me and saw how BAD I was driving, I would've said "what's up." Here's an idea: Before you go accusing somebody of not having MADD SKILLZ, why don't you take a ride w/ them? If you don't wanna wait to judge, slow your roll on those accusations.
To DV8: I didn't beat or mistreat the car, so (respectfully) quit being such a sensitive artist about it.

My best friend is a Ford tech, and he was poking around a new Mach 1 today. Looks like the engine is a leftover Lincoln MK8 piece. The valve covers say "Intech V8", and many of the bolt-on pieces look like they are Lincoln hardware also...

"since when is driving a car fast beating on it"

when the car has 7 damn miles on it.

"E. I WAS IN THE CAR WITH A SALES MANAGER!!! , ...and my boss couldn't find third"

you should all be fired.

"take a ride w/ them? If you don't wanna wait to judge, slow your roll on those accusations."

from the looks of things, it seems you know nothing about driving, and your just an abuser

"A. Every engine is cycled 10000 miles before it is installed."

they test the engines by HOURS, not miles, before installed...do you even work at a Ford Dealership
Even so...im sure that substitutes for the 1000 mil break-in period

Whats the name of the dealership you work at?

Either you lied in your 1st post, or in the above post. Either way, you've exposed the facts. If you KNOW the car fell on it's face after 5,000rpm, you WERE beating on it. This isn't rocket science. A car with 7 miles on it is NOT broken in. It hardly matters how many times the engine is cycled at the plant, because (since nobody told you) HEAT MATTERS! It's needed to allow an engine to break in, for ring seat, etc. I don't need to be in a Mustang with you to know you aren't familiar with the best way to drive one. This car hasn't been available for TWO DAYS (to you) and you expect I think you know how to drive it? And speaking of "judging" things... What makes YOU the end all, who can tell everyone that you drove your own car after driving another car for the 1st time ever in your life and for less than 20 minutes total and you KNOW that LS1 drivers won't have any problem outrunning them??? GROW UP!

Default Re: Just drove brand new mach 1... Scouting report

I worked at a Pontiac dealership selling cars for a while, and trust me what he is saying is not unusual. Many cars take a beating while at the dealership, not all and some dealerships are better than others but I saw many T/A's and Firehawk's get hammered on with under 20 miles on them. To be on the safe side I would never buy a performance car off a dealers lot with any more than 10 miles on it, or better yet just order it because most of the cars ordered never see a road before the customer takes delivery. Most people are worried about how many times the cars have been test driven but for the most part the hardest the cars are driven are by the people at the dealership. The worst ones are the "new" models when they first arrive at a dealership, like the first Caddilac CTS we got, everyone took it out for a drive to see what it was like and no one was easy on it. That is wy I would be very cautious when trying to get the "first" GTO in 2004, because I would bet those 20-50mi on the odometer will not be easy miles! But it is not just performance cars, I saw many 8.1 GMC pickups do good smokeshows in the parking lot behind the dealership. It is obviously very bad for the cars but many dealerships don't care. Baddogz28, you seem to think that it is not that bad for the car but because you probably have driven a few cars even a little hard when new, than you know the smell of a new engine after it is driven pretty hard, it has a very distinctive hot smell, I don't think that can be too good for it.
Tim.

SSPEEED: If there is a "break in period of 1000 miles" for every new car, why is the customer not instructed to keep the car under a certain speed or rpm by the owner's manual?

Who made you the expert on every new car's tolerances and specific "break-in" requirements (or lack thereof?)
And, please, Mr. Know It All, how in the F@#K do you know how I was driving if you WERE NOT THERE?

Another thing, it's nice to meet these real SENSITIVE guys on this board...
"Hey, man, wanna go for a ride in the mach we got in today?"
"No, man. That's TERRIBLE what you guys are doing to that car!! What's the phone number for the better business bureau? You hooligans need to be reported." You drive two preformance cars, and they probably had the **** beat out of them much worse than the mach. Sorry for letting you in on that.
ITLLRUN: When did I EVER say my mustang driving technique was better or worse than anybody elses?

When did I ever say I was the end all? All I said was that my car is faster than the Mach, and that most LS1 cars should be able to handle one. As far as my driving is concerned: Let's not forget that I never asked you for your opinion or "judging" about my driving, and I don't give a F@#K about what you think. You EXPECT that I care what you think?

01TA: You are right, the engines do have a smell to them after there first couple of drives. But after a normal test drive at slow speeds, why does it smell? I don't know about GM production process, but Ford engines are sprayed with a protective coating after assembly, and that smell is that coating heating up and has nothing to do with how a car was driven. After a few drives, the coating burns off, and the smell goes away.
Here's a question for you:
What is worse, doing the sh*t you guys did @ your dealership (truck smoke shows) or the fact that I put 2 miles on a Mach 1 to see what it could do?
I didn't smoke the tires, brake torque, or power-shift the car- I just rowed through the gears.

You guys want the name of the dealership this guy worked at? Sounds like they treated the cars real nice.
