Default Death by GTP

Well last night I was just cruising around and a black GTP rolls up besides me. The guy seemed pretty cool so I reved at him and he returned the favor. Then the next light we line up and the green light pops so we are off. He pulled about a car ahead and keept it there till around 80 which is where i started slowly reeling him in. We both shut down before i caught him tho... Do you guys have any idea if the car was modded? I have a 1996 WS6, stock, a4 and i launched with virtually no wheele spin....thanks alot

what year GTP? Some of those ******* are FAST. There is a hardcore turbocharged on down here by me, darkmaroon, and the sound of the car as he comes flying up Knights rd is just plain awesome.

They can be fast as ****. They are supercharged, which sets up for a plethora of mods.

Sounds like the guy pry had a pulley. They are fun cars, when my GTP was modded I ran in the 8.9's@80 on street tires in the 1/8th. My main mods were a pulley, intake, 1.9 rockers, exhaust and a reprogrammed PCM. They are pretty easy to get into the high 13's without alot alot of money. You can get them into the mid-high 12's for not alot of money either, but eventually the trans will take a crap. I used to suprise alot of people, I took off my GTP badges so people would think that I was GT

Good death

I surprise alot of ppl. in mine. But you can see their weak point- topend he probably had a few more then the basic mods. You gotta watch out for the GTP's we go out hunting for LT1's and any mustang gt lol.

MUHAAAA!
A Grocery getter, strikes again! LOL

He probally had a pulley and intake...thats i all needed to take any kind of stock lt1....gps were made to be torque monsters...i have well over 320 TQ runnin threw the veins of my gtp.....i will smoke any ls1 u bring to me, stock of coarse, and smoke him till bout 80, and thats when he'll start reelin me in....but if you get some rockers, or a cam, a stock ls1 won't have a chance...personally i have never raced a ls1 from a dig....raced allot lt1s and made them lick there own *******

Just My .02 cents

Since when is 320ft-lbs a torque monster? Maybe that was a typo and you meant 820ft-lbs. That is a torque monster.

15 bags of groceries at 15 pounds per bag = 225# you need a lot of torque to haul that

They're made to haul kids around and pick up groceries. There is no power down low. What's the fastest street legal GP in the world? I bet my work car is faster.

What mods do you have done that makes your "torque monster" GTP out run LS1's??? Actually just a pulley and a intake won't do ****, you'd be in the same ball park as a stock 5spd 99-2004 mustang gt's.

Don't get me wrong I love Gtp's,and still hang with members of a gtp club at events so by no meens am I putting down the Gtp's just stating my own expierance, but Unless your running race gas and tire I can't see you smokin an ls1 with a few minor mods.My friend has my old gtp and on the street with out drag radials and race gas and my timing up with the iccu my stock ls1 beats my friend in my old Gtp.Might be diffrent if I was driving it because I'm more used to it,but either way a drivers raceBut your right they do have most there power down low but with-out tire it hurts you, from a roll with out the stuff mentioned above it was close every time a drivers race. But if you have drag radials and the ls1 doesn't than your statement might be true.My old Gtp and my new T/A would be a really close race right now drag set-up vs drag set-up.Both ran the same 26x9.5x16 hoosier qtp's at the same track.Remember the times seem slow because of DA is around 5,000 ft.The times I ran in both cars.Stock my T/A ran a best of 13.9 @ 101 w/ a 2.17 60 ft. bone stock.Same track my gtp ran a 15.3 can't remember the 60ft. I think around 90 mph. With a 3500 converter and the qtp's on the T/A I ran a 13.6 @100 mph on an even hotter day than the 13.9 which is why I think my mph was slower w/ a 1.79 60ft.My Gtp with out race gas and added timimg with the same qtp's ran a best of 13.7 @ 99mph w/ a 60ft almost the same to my T/a's w/ a 1.83 and that was just with a converter and nothing else. With race gas and added timimg in the Gtp I ran a best of a 13.2 @102 w/ an almost identical 1.79 60ft.I than added a catback and lid to the T/A and went to a better DA track that was in the 2,000 and ran a best of 12.801 @105 w/ 1.72 60 ft.Although it was a diffrent track I believe if I ran @ that other track again on a decent day I would be running close to a 13.2-13.3 also.As there is another Gp I know that ran a best of a 13.2 also that ran a 12.9 @ the track I ran a 12.8 although his tune was more mild and was running 13.4 w/ the same set-up I think @ the slower track. So I think my Gtp @ the other track would be a 12.7-12.8 because you gain about .5 in e/t and about 4 mph diffrence,so really close to my T/A times w/ minor mods.By the way my Gtp had tog headers, full exhaust but still has the cat,zzp stage 4 port and polish blower,ls1 throttle body kit,yes ls1 lol.3.0 pulley,dhp/iccu bundle, zzp st1 Intercooler,wiz-aire cia,42.5 lbs injectors, and used to have before it broke a trans axle with lsd and 3.69 ratio. There are cammed Gtp's w/out Ic that I beat in my Gtp w/out a cam but w/Ic.So my 2cents would say you would need 2 of the following,a cam and a ic or nos, or heads ore one of the three plus race gas and tire to really smoke a close to stock Ls1!12.7-12.8 is fast for a bolt-on v6 family car,but the ls1 you can't take so lightly. With just a TC,Cat back, and a lid my ls1 is just as fast down low and up top.So be careful when you race an ls1 in a lightly modded gtp.Unless you can totally out drive your opponent you might get more than you can handle.Just trying to let Gtp's and Ls1's know what they might be instore for them if they race similar cars and what they are capable of.
