Default Killed a RX7 twin turbo

I raced a RX7 not sure the year its the one before the Rx8. we raced from 30 mph and I pulled on him in first and hit 2nd and I left him. We then turned in a parking lot and he ended up been a guy I knew a while back. He used to drive a 2000 firebird V6 he had it where it look like a WS6 formula. I told him that he should of bought a ls1 T/A and been done with it. But i think I talked him into putting a ls1 in his RX7. After his rotory goes out.

Those can be really quick cars, but very expensive.

I'm from Lafayette. I haven't had the chance to run a LS1 yet with my LT1. Maybe we should meet up sometime for fun. I would like to see first hand the difference between a LS1 and LT1.

I don't have same amount of mods are you, but it would give me an idea of what I need to get.

Send me a PM if your interested in meeting up.

You sure it was a twin turbo?? A twin turbo RX7 should spank your 98 with the mods listed..

Theres no way a stock twin turbo rx-7 will spank a 98 even if its stock, 93-95 rx-7 have 255fwhp, thats barley around 215-230 to the rear wheels and avergae 1/4 mile times are in the low 14's. they are do weight any where from 2800-3100 pounds but it still wound not spank a stock 98, might be a close race but it won't spank it.
FYI: all third gen rx-7(93-95) were twin turbo

i agree with that guy...the rotary turbo can be easily turned into a beast, but stock it is probably a low 14 second car.

however those are very nice and clean looking cars...

I wouldn't want to have to work on a rotary engine... probably one of the most complicated engines you'd ever get close to...

NOT COMPLICATED AT ALL 3 MOVING PARTS WHERE THE MOST BASIC PISTON ENGINE HAS 40 PLUS MOVING PARTS.

Its just a engine it does the same thing as any engien exept a 2 stroke.

intake compression power exhaust

They can be very fast if modded correctly. They have a real problem putting the power to the ground though.

theres not really a problem with putting the power to the ground. its just that its a real tempermental engine. even going lean once can *** those things up.
i had a 88 turbo II before my formul and i blew that thing up 3 months after it was rebuild. You realy have to know what your doing when tunning thos motors and one mistake and its blown

LOL there are 3 moving parts, they are the least complicated motor you'll ever get close too haha, it works like a 2 stroke 1 cyl engine(kind of)

anyways I have a buddy who baught one local to me, a 93 twin turbo, put 2 new turbo's on in(not sure what but nothing overly fancy) and runs low 12's at LACR (not so great track High DA) and thats the cars only mods besides road racing suspension.

Another friend who has an 87 rx7 (2nd gen) and spent 5k on a motor at mazda racing, (suposedly race prep, around 400 hp) and cant get the thing to run. I think they screwed up on the wiring or something.

Point is just like any car they can will go fast if you want them to (in most cases )

They are more of 13.7-13.8 cars with a good driver, obviously this guy wasn't too good. I've driven an RX-8 and they are pretty wierd. He may have just not launched high enough, and you need to in those things especially with twin turbo's i'd imagine. I launched the 8 at nearly 5k and it still took off slow and that is naturally aspirated.

3rd gen rx7's weigh in at 2700-2850 depending on year and model. They run high 13's stock and trap 101- 103 mph assuming a healthy engine and decent driver. Stock for stock the ls1 will come out on top.

Yes the rotary is a "simple" engine, but that doesn't mean they are easy or cheap to rebuild. My last rebuild cost as much as my '01 ls1/t56 pullout-Yikes!
They can be fast, but are unreliable, gas guzzling, tough to tune, sound like a weedwacker on crack and produce more emissions than a city bus. Did I mention I like my ls1 better
