Default Beat by SRT-4

Comin home from work today, stopped next to an SRT-4. We went when the light dropped, and I outlaunched the hell out of him. He reeled me in through third though. Sounded like a catback and a BOV, probably not much more than that since he didn't pull me horribly bad. I actually expected it to be worse, I guess my launch save me from total embarassment.

in the WRX? wow yeah i'd expect that too. Although the stock exhausts on those things arn't all that restrictive. they pop and grumble like an angry, flatulant ape.

It definitely could have been stock, he didn't pull me all that hard. It did have a BOV though.

He was prolly pretty much stock since the WRX's and SRT-4's are pretty close times wise. He might have a had a stage 1 kit.

Yeah they're probably pretty close. The SRT-4 is a little lighter, and has 230hp and 250ft. lbs. stock, compared to the 227hp and 217ft. lbs. of the stock WRX.

the WRX gets it to the ground better though. So i say that race ended up the way it should, a stock SRT-4 should be able to beat a WRX in a straight line.

WRX gets it to the ground to all four wheels, but the drivetrain is a bitch to the power. Saps a lot by putting it to all four wheels.

Does this make you feel better about how well they run?

To answer your question, yes they do have a BOV. However it is environmental friendly, so it is internally vented. Meaning you dont get that BOV whistle when letting off the throttle.

How much does a WRX weigh? I know with it's thin paint and thin body panels it can't be too much more than an SRT-4. SRT's, depending on how they are optioned were between 2900-3000lbs.

Exhaust on the SRT4 is quite restrictive. If he had a BOV, they do nothing for performance, similar to how a WRX w/ a BOV does nothing but make the car run worse.

BOVs do nothing for performance. I assumed that since he had an aftermarket atmospherical BOV, he probably had a few more bolt-ons.

WRXs weigh 3000-3100 lbs.

You'd be surprised at how dumb people are lol. The SRT's, WRX's, and EVO's around here have nothing but mods that do almost nothing for the money. Like, there is one kid with a WRX with a BOV and a CAI as his only mods.........

(not even an acufab or other boost controller....)

BTW, I love the quote in your sig

BOV's protect the turbo more then anything else...

they do help "performance" in the sense they they make the turbo's job easyer when the throttle body plate closes....

srt4 have no mufflers and their exhausts are very free flowing.

they are very fast up top.

The pieces from the cat back are relativelyfree flowing, but everything from exhaust manifolds to the downpipe are really restrictive. The turbo is a 16g stuffed into a td04 housing... which really needs a td05.... the o2 housing on the turbo is extremely restrictive, just replacing that people have picked up 5 whp. The down pipe has a 2.5 outside diameter, but close to a 2.2 inch inside diameter.

The SRT already has a BOV stock... the WRX already has a BOV stock...it's just that they are internally vented so there is no whoosh or whistle noise.... ricers dont like quiet. There is no need for an external one unless you are close to exceeding the stock rating. SRT's need them replaced if exceeding 18psi of boost.
