My White '01 SS vs. a Gray Evo
This was interesting because I never down-shifted far enough get my engine into it's power band; my friend says I'm too kind. Also, I was driving home from an autoX, so my car was loaded with 250 lbs. of tires, wheels, tools, and ice chest.
Three runs, all from a roll at 100 mph:
#1 Up a long steep grade. I never down-shifted at all; stayed in 6th the whole time, just mashed it to the floor. We were pretty even until we hit 140 mph; at this speed the Evo stopped accelerating and I passed him going 150 mph.
#2 On level road. I down shifted to 5th gear rocketed away from him; shut it down at 120 mph.
#3 Again on level road and down shifted to 5th. He gained on me slowly for a while, then we were even, then I started to pull away. At that point I had to abort because of traffic ahead. I suspect he was in 4th gear on this run since he did much better. I should have shifted to 4th also; I seem to forget I can go 125 mph in 4th.

I couldn't really tell if it was modified. It looked new and shinny, and had a big shinny muffler and tailpipe. But the stock muffler looks that way on them also. It did have a very loud BOV, I noticed that.
If he's out there, I would like to hear from him. He know's what road we were on.
On an interesting side note, my bro-in-law has a stock Evo and he raced what he described as "a healthy sounding" SS (probably stock with loud exhaust.) They started from 30 or 40 mph I think. He was able to stay with the SS until they hit 100 mph, then they both shut down for traffic. He says a stock Evo will do about 155 mph top speed.

I thought I did pretty good for being in one gear higher than I should have been every time. My engine makes 430 rwhp at 6400 rpm. I was racing him down at 4200 rpm where it makes 300 rwhp.
I have a reason for trying it in 6th gear on the first run. It is useful information to know how much hp it takes to push the car at different speeds. Basically it gave me another data point for choosing a rear end ratio to do some Land Speed Racing at some point in the future.
I should have down shifted to 4th on the last run though; that was my mistake.
