Default Can I beat a 00-02 Z28 with my 98

I'm not real sure on the year, I know it has the newer style factory 16's. The car is all stock and belongs to a girl a couple blocks from me. She always gives me a look like her car is better then mine. Anyway everytime I see her car, shes always going the opppisite direction. Yesterday she was finally going the same direction I wasand I wanted to see if she would race me but she flew by me like I was standing still and I was going 10 mph over the speed limit. My car has a lid, bellows, GMMG catback, and I'm getting a ported TB in the next couple of weeks. You guys think I can beat her if her car is a 01 or 02? Is there any major difference between the 98 and 00?

the 01-02's had the LS6 intake plenum, but a milder cam...10rwhp gain anyways, I would say it depends on who has 2.73's and who got the 3.23's (as i recall, teh newerLs1's got the better gears...check your door code and look at the "GU" one, if its "GU2" then you got the 2.73's.)

i'm with stanger88....she prolly has nothing done so its close but if one of you has 3.23s that will make a difference, and forget racing her, hump her (if shes hot)

Heck if she is hot just hump her win or lose.

As to who would win... "on the street most anything can happen" so, just race and let us know the outcome.

Why would she want to race you? Be nice to the girl next door, she probably doesnt care and is just aloof because alot of women seem that way when you dont know them.

ps. Alot of girls wouldn't want to drive up next to someone that stares at them everytime they drive by. If you want to get to know her, talk to her...otherwise leave her alone.

or just hump her

Nope. Can't be done. No '98 has ever beat an '01-'02 car. You'd be the first if you pull it off. Good luck, but most likely you'll look like this ---> when you're done.

Whoever hooks up is probably going to win. There is barely a difference motor to motor, rearend will make a slight difference, but traction will make the biggest difference. I say screw the race and go for the girl.

Get some drag radials for the rear and you'll take her. Then take her out afterwards.

It will be a drivers race, with the advantage going to whoever has the best gears.

Race her for a date. If you lose, throw out some ricer excuses so that you win and get the date anyways

The 3.23's are better for acceleration.

The higher the number, the higher the rpms go.

But........if you put your car in its powerband and it is more efficient, it may get better fuel mileage with the steeper gears. I have a 90 model Gt that had 3.27s in it, I put 3.73s in it and didnt hurt the mileage at all. It pulls much easier without lugging, which explains the mileage.

I think there is more than "barely a difference" in the motor. Here is all the differences: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....81&postcount=3

The main difference is the Z06 intake which is good for about 10 hp.
The 6.0 liter truck cam while not as radical for hp gains up top, is much torquier down low. Also, GM rated the 01-02 Z-28's at 310 fwhp but in actuality most of these 01-02 models put down 310-320 rwhp. I believe most 98-00 models put down 295-305 rwhp. On average then, 01-02 LS1's make about 15 more rwhp than 98-00 and more torque also. All these figures are with an M6. The A4's dyno about 10% lower, but since both cars are A4's then this can be used as an equal comparison. Your mods may even it out. I agree with everyone else, forget racing her, just hit it.

There are some differences in the cars, but both dyno similar enough #'s to be a drivers race. To answer your question specifically, yes you can beat an 00-02 Z28. Also an 00-02 Z28 could beat you. May the best driver win.

you sure could profit from an LS6 intake. Between the model years that little gem made the most overall difference in powerband.
