Default are GTI's fast

Theres a kid in my dorm talking trash about his buddys GTI. I wasnt going to immediatly retaliate because I dont know anything about them so I was hoping someone here could give me some info. Its a brand new GTI so im assuming 2004-2005 its pushing 20lbs of boost on the stock turbos ,"some nos", and "a bunch of other stuff" so im assuming intake exhaust. I couldnt get anymore specifics than that. so is this thing fast?

20lbs stock turbos
intake
exhaust
"some nos"

They run low 15's to high 14's bone stock. With the mods you mentioned above it should run low 13's.

That's about right, much more than 20#s and they'll start to over work the stock cork of a turbo. At most he has a 75 shot on it, so, yeah, low 13s with a driver that can pedal and drive half way good. Straight up dig, haha, tell him not to bother ya.

thanks for the replies but i have one more question. The car is an auto, I know that doesnt concern domestic drivers much because of torque but would the GTI be slower as an auto because it needs to be revved up to make power?

Not sure if the GTI's are AWD, cuz if they are, then it could be good race from a dig. I launch at around 8-10lbs of boost, to bad my tranny blows (literally, need a new one). I'm guessing around low 13's too.

The GTi having an automatic tranny is definitely NOT gonna be in his favor for winning a race. Tiny, torqueless, high-strung engines like those found in sport compacts are much sluggish with slush boxes, and need manuals to keep the engine in the powerband with the selected gears. I have a feeling this race shouldn't be a problem for you.

Raced a Stock 2004 GTI 4 times last year when I was bone stock to the filter, they have no chance even if you miss a shift. If he sprays you might have a race on your hands.

Are GTI's fast? No.

VR6 with Tubro is decent, souped up 4 cylinder GTI turbo is decent. They can run with stock or lightly modified F-bodies, whooptie dooo. The AWD R32 is a 240hp bitch...pissed on compared to the Evo or WRX...Heavy.

Yes there are GTI's that can whoop F-bodies, just like an occasional light heavyweight can beat up on a heavweight.

I had the LO3 pictured below and I beat my friends stock GTIVR6 to 3rd gear..he let off because my car was backfiring badly, I didnt' lol....

Comparing front wheel drive and rear wheel drive cars is stupid though, who the **** cares about a POS front wheel drive car, they suck, there's not one that I would want to own. They are for gas mileage, daily driving...AND THAT's IT!!!!! I can't emphasize this enough, boring boring boring. Not real cars, I don't care how fast in a straight line they are, if you can't steer(not understeer) with the throttle it's crap!

Tell me why I'm wrong!

What Golf's do you have in the US?

The current model:

Has a 2.0 Turbo S4 with 200bhp. 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds (manual) and 6.9 seconds (DSG)

With a few mods it could make some good power but it won't be very deployable.

The older GTi (mk4) where quite fat and heavy for the size of car. The Gti had a 1.8 turbo or a 2.0 20v n/a. Stock neither was fast with 0-60mph in the 8 second range.

The R32 is a 4wd drive 3.2 V6 n/a. Basically an Audi TT. 240bhp, fast for a hatch but WAY out of its league against performance cars.

The VR6 has not been in production since the MK3 Golf and only had 204bhp, 0-60 in about 7 seconds.

The Mak IV is still on sale, and the U.S. will be getting the car you have pictured above(200hp 4cylinder tubro...they are dropping the VR6). At least they are brining the weight under control, no reason for a car that small to weigh over 3000lbs.

r32's are dogs from the factory acceleration-wise. Some guy in my neighborhood got one and was talking so much about it and how it was a true sports car, blah, blah, blah. He wasnt being a dick and talking down about other cars but he seemed to think it was the fastest thing ever. To make a long story short we had a friendly race because he wanted to see how his car would hold up against mine and I smoked him. Wasnt close at all. From a 50mph roll to about 110 mph on the highway I had multiple car lengths on him. Not saying they are crappy cars, but they are way over-hyped. I would purchase an evo or an sti over an r32 anyday of the week. But back to the topic at hand, like everyone has said if he is on the stock turbos and the stock fuel system then hes probably not a 11-12 second car but rather a mid to low 13 second car. Good luck though witht he race and make sure to post the results!

I'll bet you a tank of gas that particular car is just a riced-out POS. Sure GTI's can be made fast, but 9 times out of 10, it's a fart-can'd car with a 30 shot at most. As far as boost goes, i doubt 20psi is easily attainable on stock equipment.

Kick his ***, seabass!

If he's auto then no chance for him anyways. Fastest i went on stock turbo and 17psi was 13.2@104 with strip interior and drag radials.. I maybe could of gotten a 13.0 if i cut a 1.9 60' but my best was a 2.0. Stock turbo's suck and if its auto it sucks even more. I think he would be only low 14's without N2o maybe slower... His tranny would blow up with N2o they are POS.... I have seen 50 shot in a 1.8T with stock turbo go 12.8@111mph, but he was stripped and drag radials and 5 speed.......

i think you'll beat him 100%

i ran 24psi for 70k miles, and 20psi for 15k miles and now on big turbo running 21psi on stock engine. Weak link is the tranny.. The engine has hold up to 490whp and 35psi before it let go for somebody..... Plus stock turbo can't do more then 220whp no matter what PSI. I dont care if you ran 40psi on stock turbo it wont make more then 220whp. The turbo is so small it will be blowing hot *** air.. Efficiency on a stock turbo is 16-18psi anything more is useless
