Killed by LS1
Me vs. Vert. Z28 LS1 A4 (later model, maybe an 01/02).
We were holding at about 60mph with him 1 car back, he nailed it and i waited until he got beside me to drop from OD into 4th. We ended up shutting down at about 95-100. He had around 4-5 cars or so on me. I suppose i need to drop into more than 4th anyways, we pulled up at the light behind 3 cars each and he leaned out his wondow and said "I heard your blower belt slip" I told him.." Im NA" He grinned and that was that. Anyways, I feel like I should have done better, probably my going into only 4th gear is what killed me, will try 3rd next time (Still new to a standard and this car).

Next time try a lower mph roll, maybe you'll get a little closer...just remmber the LS1 starts to pull at the higher RPM's. Getting comfortable with a new car can take a while, but there's nothing like some good practice to take care of that.

It was at the upper RPM's that i started stopping his pull, I should have hit 3rd instead of 4th gear though, i think i would have had a chance, jsut played with the car a bit earlier and found that 60mph in 3rd = 4700rpm. Which is about 700 rpm below my peak hp, hence, 4th at 3700 rpm at 60 mph was KILLING ME until i would it out and by then he was GONE...at any rate, will use 3rd next time

Sounds like a 3rd gear pull would have worked better for you. Take the car to the track and develop you drag racing skills, it will really show you what you have. Who knows, maybe you'll catch him around the block another day.
Keep it safe and buckle up.

Waiting until he was next to you before you hit also gave him a big advantage. Even if you picked the perfect gear, he was already pulling and at a higer mph. If you were at 60, when he was next to you, he may have been going 65 or faster. 60 to 100 doesn't take long with these cars. Little time to make up for mistakes or disadvantages even with the faster car.
I run with a B&M in my Lx and a Hurst in the Z. Best mod you can make to a manual is the shifter. Have fun with the M6.

I am currently running a short throw TKO handle on my TKO500 which comes factory with a Hurst short throw. Sorry, the handle goes under "odds and ends I have forgotten" but yeah, he was already cookin' when he was beside me, which is why I was so pumped by being taken by only 5 or so cars, that coupled with being in the wrong gear. I think if it had been fair I coulda done okay. My entire goal was to have a NA 302 fox that was reliable, driveable, and got 20 mpg while taking on the LS1 (what I would have gotten if i did not get a fox) the reason I chose the fox is i could put in a 100% brand new drive train for teh same price as buying a used LS1 with say, 60K on the odo.
