Drivers race with edge to Z28. If he has an auto and he isn't 'hiding' any mods, he shouldn't be a problem, unless you mess up the launch. If he has a manual you should still edge him out but it will be closer. Or take him from a roll to eliminate the risk of spinning or any advantage he might get from swapping to some really sticky tires. Auto vs. Manual, you should win at least 3 out of 5. Auto to auto, you shouldn't have a problem.
As far as it being 'no contest', he is basing his cars performance on it's stripe, shaker hood, and name. Clue less or arrogant, teach him a lesson. Even if you lose, it should be too close for him to keep saying 'no contest'.

Looks to me like you both only have cat-backs for power mods, with the exception of some LS1 edit tuning for you. He's way too confident that he'll win though, so he's either clueless or maybe has something done he hasn't told you about.
Should be a driver's race if he's a manual trans car.
Good luck!

When I had my 02' mustang gt, I had 3.73's, CAI, cat back, pullies, chip, upper and lower rear control arms, and springs. I used to be dead even with mach ones in the 1/8, and i was running 9.0's. However they did trap higher.

Race him and let us know how it goes... It seems like everytime one of these theads pop up know one ever tells the out come.. I'm starting to wonder if that is because they loss and don't want to tell anyone.. I think it should be a close race.. If your going from a dig I'll give the advantage to the Mach since they do get out of the hole alot better then the Z, but from a low mph roll its anyones race..

A bone stock M5 Mach 1 will dyno at about 265 rwhp. GIve him 10 for the cat-back to be nice and he has 275 rwhp. If he is an auto, its less, and the auto SUCKS (Yes, i drive a ford, but will be the first to say the AODE and AOD and all their derivatives were mostly junk) My vote goes to the Z if its auto, if he is 5-speed my vote goes to the driver b/c he has better gearing (slightly) hand his 1-2 shift drops less rpm than the 4L60E 1-2 shift does. He has 3.55's and you have 3.42's. My vote goes to whomever gets traction if he is a 5M. (unless you draw this thing out to 120 or something, but the 4V's pull decent up high...).

I dug-up some of my old time slips from when my Mach was stock & I'd only had it a few weeks. This was completely stock down to the paper air filter, stock tires & stock weight:
As you can see, my 60' times pretty much blew on these runs & I was at 9.0X or faster in the 1/8th. This was my 1st time running the Mach so I was learning what it liked to be launched at.
Later that same day, I found a better launch technique & shift rpm:
Simply getting a decent 60' time put me .3+ faster in the 1/8th than earlier in the day. It was still 80+ degrees out with high humidity too.
The second two slips weren't anything special though - I ran faster in the 1/8th & 1/4 a few days later with different shift-points only....

Simply adding a drop-in K&N put me at ~ 287 rwhp, and a cat-back & 4.30 gears (which rob a little power on the dyno) and I was at ~ 298 rwhp:
