Talking LS1 WS6 vs. my Mach1

Today 9/13, I ran into a nice looking Pewter WS6 on the hwy.. He saw me on one of the access roads leading to the hwy and revved at me, and I gave him a little rev back.. It sounded pretty good, I don't know what mods he had because I didn't look at the car. Well he chaced me down on the hwy so he could get next to me and run.. I did the 3 honk thing and we took off from about a 65mph roll.. Well instantly I started pulling on him and I shut it down at about 120mph do to traffic but since I was already about 3 cars in front of him I went ahead and switched into his lane so I could miss the cars.. That was the only time we ran, I guess he didn't want anymore after that since he wouldn't get besides me again and he turned off about a mile later down the road.. It was a good Kill for Old "SMOKEY"... BTW I did hear him shift so I do know it was a M6...

Just a little bit.. Well I do have to up grade everything to take the abuse that I put on it at the track racing on slicks and launching at 6K+ RPM's.. If not I would break all kinds of stuff..

My race weight at the track is 3150 lbs with the passenger and back seats out along with the spare tire, jack, and light weigh racing rims and tires.... But I was at full weight this time with everything in my car plus I had my heavy rims on... The car weighs around 3400+lbs with out driver, plus I also had my g/f as a passenger in the car also.. So I would say the cars weigh was a little over 3700 lbs..

Dark Shadow Grey..
What kind of power does you car put down with out the spray??? I also run very low 12's for now, I have been to the 1/4 mile track in a long time but the last time I was there I ran some 12.25's @110.85mph, but that was before my headers, intake work, chip, tko tranny, suspension work, and the big and littles.. I just had an O/R X pipe, catback, 4.10 gears, built rear, 17" ET Streets, stock suspension, and race weight of 3230lbs with out driver.. It might have been a good race but looking at your mph you should be able to kill be pretty good..

wow, you dropped 600lbs just by doing all that? the biggest weight loss was probably the wheels right? i have to admit dan-i am impressed by how fast your car is with as little as you have done to the motor, i rarely see guys spend more on the drivetrain an suspension than the engine

Beating him by 3 cars from a 65 mph roll, he'd have to have been stock. 3 cars is alot. Dan03's mach is quick, but his suspension and drivetrain mods aren't gonna help him smoke a more powerful car from a 65 mph roll.

Acually I only drop about 250 lbs when I go to the track.. I had an extra person in the car so that is extra weight that I had to add in at this time that normally isn't in there.. Yeah I know I have done alot to the drivetrain of this car an nothing at all to the motor, but thats what I needed to do first to keep from breaking all kinds of stuff..

You will be surprized as to how hard this car pulls up top.. For example, I raced my buddy Jeremy's, "Jeremym" on here, 98 SS again, the one with the heads, cam, full bolt ons, and M6 thats puts down 450rwhp and 400rwtq... We ran from a dig to about 120mph and he only had about 3 cars on me maybe a tad bit more but not much, and we both got out of the hole the same, spinning pretty baddly LOL... Now before any of you call B.S. I did have alot of weight reduction at the time I raced him, so I know that had to help out some, but I was still on my heavy daily driven rims and tires and not my light weight racing rims and tires.. We ran another time from a 40 roll up to about 120 so we wouldn't have any traction issues and he put from what I could tell only 2.5 to 3 cars on me.. That isn't bad at all considering how much more power he has, but my car was about 400lbs lighter than his and it has better gearing. So that does make a huge difference..

I guess I'm another exception to that rule.

I did chassis stiffening, suspension & weight reduction before doing any power mods besides a drop-in K&N air filter. I did add headers/exhaust/etc later, but only after the suspension was working pretty well.
Most of the $$$ spent on my car (which wasn't much IMHO) went to strengthening the rear for longer life & upgrading the front/rear suspension for better weight trnasfer/traction.

I haven't done anything to my stock engine/trans/clutch/flywheel except change the engine oil a few times. No porting, polishing, cams, gasket-matching, etc,...

I figure it runs well-enough in stock form to get me high 11's, so why tear it apart (yet)???

I never have bought many suspension parts for any of my cars. I guess I should look into that in the future. Someone told me that adj. upper and lower CA's for the rear make a big difference for launching our machs. I have DR's and still have trouble getting a decent 60' time. Anyway, congrats on the kill.

400 pounds is like adding around 50rwhp or perhaps even more than that...and yes gearing certainly makes a difference. If his car is really heavy yours is "lightened", absolutely. My old Z28 after I added a heavy system etc made around 550rwhp yet was quite a bit slower than my current Z06 NA...my Z06 makes 432rwhp without the good stuff.. It however weighs 3100 pounds vs around 3600 for the camaro, and also has much better gearing. WEIGHT MATTERS!

I'm not flaming or calling b.s., but am having a hard time understanding why mach's appear to be so fast. Maybe you guys can help. What am I missing that allows a mach with less hp than an LS1 to pull 3 cars from a roll at 65 mph? Why does a small displacement car with ~140 less rwhp than a heads/cam LS1 only lose by 2.5 car lengths to 120 mph? By reading all the posts by you mach guys, I'd think LS1's are turds... really! Why did I buy an LS1? Are they really that slow?

Nah, LS-1's ain't slow but he has a very well set up car. You wouldn't believe the difference gears make. I put a locker and 4.10's on my '03 pullied/tuned Cobra and it turned INSANE on me.
